I'm pretty sure everyone here realizes that election year shortages are purely based on hype, but hype is what generates demand - realistic or not. The only options in this case are to beat the demand by purchasing early, or take your chances paying ridiculous prices after the hype generates demand and drives up the prices.
I'd rather be part of this discussion than the inevitable threads bitching about buying overly inflated ammo.

The prices actually do come back down, sometimes lower than they were to begin with. As I said before the last time this happened I and many others here were able to get Arsenal AKs for hundreds of the regular price in October of 2009.

Doc Torr wrote:I think the general concensus is that prices tend to rise over time. It would likely bet better to buy prior to these four-year cycles. I'm all for shooting tomorrow at today's prices, but it seems like everyone fo5rgets the steady rises and goes into panic-buy mode. The higher the prices go, the longer they will stay up, since everyone would rather make $5 per box than $2 per box.

We agree here. I don't think you're taking into considering the fact that no amount of holding out or attempting to be rational with the masses will stop rises in prices or panic buying.
Looking at online ammo prices right now, I don't see any major increases in price across the board. The point of this thread is to buy before the prices rise. We all acknowledge that election panics aren't logical. Like buying stock, the point is to buy before the prices rise. No amount of holding out or preaching against panic or rush buying is going to stop the prices from increasing, so the only way to win is understand these cycles and beat them.

I was referring to ammo prices. Please enlighten me: when have ammo prices as a whole declined over time in the last decade?
