I'm ready for a Spring MBO. Who else wants one?
I would like to see a bare bones class and a comfort class.

Heck this winter was so much like spring for my AO. Shoot during one trip I was in my shorts for the entire day and into the night hike. I say hold off for summer and start on the first day of the season. But will roll with whatever the community wants.

Now admittedly we don't have to deal with -20 degree temps, much less anything in the +20s round here, but the summer is just unbearable to sleep out in Texas, so if it started by April or so that'd be great. Plus, I'm trying to setup a chapter MBO in April so it would be nice if it could be an entry. :)

Be nice to have a comp where entrants have to simulate 1 or 2 things going wrong. Sigboy had a thread about that recently.

Please remember YOU the community drive such comps - I've enjoyed seeing members take such a proactive approach!

Like the failure ideas, kind of like extra credit. You wouldn't actually tear up something, you could say my water filter failed and you boil water instead. Or leave knife or something else at home and say "I lost my knife." Or "Saw hotties, had to fashion condom from tree bark!" Hope that doesn't get quoted.........

Could we do from mid March to end of April? After mid April my off days are few and far between.

Going camping with the kid this weekend, and motorcycle solo camping next. I think I'll make the motorcycle trip a MBO.

So. A spring MBO. Rules are that, after packing your BoB, you have to remove one item at random and consider it broken or lost. Interesting concept.

Anyone have any other ideas or embellishments to this?
I have no witty quotes at the moment.

Have someone else while your not looking take the piece of kit away and not let you know what's gone.

How about one involving our bug out vehicles, not everyone has the physical capacity to hump loads over terrain...

This would kind of break the habit of the last few & hopefully mix things up a bit, or it may become stale

...while letting a large portion of us here to participate that can not otherwise (physical disabilities etc)

not everyone is solely humping out on foot either & our plans are designed around such

bugging out has more then one meaning

I like it. A test of our Vehicle Bug Out Bags. (VBOBS) In my case, I hope to be able to get out of Dodge in my vehicle, instead of by foot. So a contest showing our setups would be pretty cool I think.

...I think.

If you fly solo you simply make a list of items, put them in a hat and draw one out. And it's gone!

If gas goes to over $4 a gallon we'll have a Mock Bug In or sleep in vehicle in front yard.

I was contemplating the vehicle type MBO as well. Most of us here have said that we’d bug out by vehicle until something prevented our use of it. In the past MBO contests we have mostly practiced the last part of our bug out plans, the walk. How about a MBO where everything is fair game? Vehicles, bike, boats, planes, whatever. However you plan to do it in an actual BO situation. I’m willing to bet that things won’t go just as planned and people will have plenty of surprises to deal with.

I know people who roll into the woods with full kitchens, cabin tents, showers and plan to stay a while. It may or may not work out that way down the road, but now seems a good time to test the plan.

We may as well use all our gear :D Idk, just an idea rolling around in my head.

I've been waiting to see this come up. I've been planning a simplistic BO approach, outlined here: viewtopic.php?f=75&t=91072

TL;DR version- I'm going on an overnighter dressed in medieval clothes and gear only.

No, I DON'T have any sense of shame, why do you ask?

Last contest we had a horse and a bike. The winner posted a video of the truck ride and even good winter road tips. I posted my truck during the winner 2011 contest and I think Kyle posted his motorcycle. This is kinda old hat so not sure why we need a contest for what anyone could do during some of the contests in the past. The more specific the ideas like....10 item rules...... WW2 to Vietnam area only gear  …or whatever the less ideas and entries will be shown.

On the flip side the more general the rules the harder the administration and judging.

Vietnam era stuff.....yikes! What about pick your war era, Civil, Spanish American, WW1, WW2, Korean, Vietnam, or Desert style? Or maybe be Clint Eastwood and do the High Plains Drifter thing? (No dynamite allowed-board policy)

Simple is better, what about.......
MBO with BOV or GHB scenario-
One item gets left at home-ie lost
One item fails in field and a substitute is found
No more than 12 items-FAK and Backpack doesn't count
And of coarse death results in INSTANT disqualification

^^^THIS gets my vote. I think it would be pretty cool to see everyone's favorite eras represented, and it also fits in with what I was planning to do anyway. Heck, for this, I'd go multiple times- no sense owning WWII and Viet Nam gear if you aren't going to use it, right?
