March ZS Postal Match

Postby elricfate » Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:56 pm

It's that time again, folks! Time for the March ZS Postal Match! You will find your scenario below, as well as your targets. Have fun!

Prize: TBD by the ZS board.

Picture if you will, a world without light, without electricity, without the industrial means to continue to excavate materials for petroleum based engines. Picture this world, five long and grueling years after the fall of man and the rise of the undead. Five excruciating years of hit and run survival, five years of tooth and nail survival, of creating your own goods to continue your existence.

There are still small, armed, groups that range the countryside scavenging what they can find while avoiding the undead, gathering items at great personal risk to themselves. They do this because this is all humanity has left, each other.

You are one of these armed scavengers, searching through scorched shells of homes and businesses, sneaking about instead of alerting roaming undead in the area, reporting back to your home group as often as possible with as many items as you can collect. As you enter what used to be a grocery store, but is now a hulking shell of a building, you notice there is a small pack of roamers on the street, though they appear to be interested in what may be inside a vehicle far enough away from you that you slip into the building without notice.

You were noticed, however, you were noticed by the poor, dying, half-eaten soul stuck in the car that the roamers seem intent on breaking into. As you enter the building, that poor person escapes the pack of zombies and runs in your direction. They only get to the foot of the sidewalk before they stumble and fall, as you watch in horror, they get torn apart.

You swallow your emotions, what little you have left so late in the game, and duck behind a checkout counter, taking count of the ammunition you have left in your pack, it's been awhile since you last made it back to homebase for a resupply, so you're down to just a dozen rounds. There are three ghouls waiting right outside who will absolutely notice you when you try to exit, now.

The small pack of roamers is 50 yards from the building. You choose to take six of your dozen rounds and dispatch them from the broken window.

Please print three of the targets included in this post (you may also use the Alternative target if your range master does not allow silhouette targets) and use two rounds per target.

Targets (as well as expanded rules) are available on the Postal Match details page, or the links at the end of this post. Please send all targets to postalmatch@zombiehunters.org. In the event of a tie, targets will be judged based on how close to the bullseye they were. Remember all targets should be printed on 8.5"x11" paper for scoring purposes. You have a total of two shots per target, three targets, use them wisely.

Remember targets are due no later than March 31st at 11:59pm (EST). Good luck!

Target: Zombies (50 yards)

Alt. Target: Zombies Alt (50 yards)

Rules are on the postal page. Assume no caliber restrictions unless posted. You can even use a pistol if you have something to prove, heh.

So what's the prize?
There is one, right? you didn't forget to mention it?
Well if there's no prize then I'll challenge myself with my 9mm at 50 yards.

I mean, traditionally, and with the spirit of the scenario, it's meant to be shot with a firearm. Especially considering it's in the Firearms forum, so on those few points, I am going to have to say no to allowing you to shoot it with your bow.

Though having said that, if someone in the "Other Weapons" subforum wants to do an Archery postal, that would be neat.

Now that right there is a cool idea. I couldn't participate, but I'd love to spectate.

I have drill next weekend... and its range time again! Might have to print a target out to take with me and punch a few holes in it with my M4 :D

So basically we are dumping the old storyline that James Cannon came up with? Are these going to be a continuous story arc, or just individual vinettes for people to shoot?

Yea, sorry, since JamesCannon isn't running the postals anymore, I'm not going to continue his storyline. These shoots will have a cohesiveness to them in that they will exist in the same world, it's going to be up to you to see if there's a pattern emerging or not

Since there is no number marked in the farthest ring out, does it not count at all or can we assume it counts as 5 since it is actually a ring?

*hoping for a few extra points*

They came through but it looks like you used three shots per target rather than the allotted two. You will want to re-shoot this match in order to be qualified to win ;-)

I already sent mine, but for future reference, is it better to send them as JPGs or PDFs?

Due by midnight Saturday, correct? Any caliber, 2rnds each at three targets?
Going to the range Saturday. Need to sight stuff in first. If that goes well, I should have something in time.
