RECOIL Magazine

Postby Zombies And SlimJims » Thu Feb 02, 2012 9:54 pm

I tried to do a quick search for this, but go figure, the words recoil and magazine pop up a thousand plus times on this site  So I'm not sure if you guys have heard of it yet or not, but I just picked up their very first issue, the website isn't even up and running yet, they're saying around March). It's definitely worth checking out, and by that, I mean AWESOME! It covers everything..Pistols, rifles, ammunition, knives, watches, quads, bug out vehicles, customizations, all different tactical gear, etc etc. The way it's set up is just amazing, when they review a gun, they take pictures of it from every angle, and explain to you what you're looking at in every picture. I want to subscribe but I don't think they're that set up yet

Here's a pic of it:

I looked through a bunch of stores but had no luck until I found it at a price chopper a few towns over!

I agree, it's a pretty good mag...expensive though and lots of negative space...I wish these mags would focus on more affordable guns for the common man instead of HK M4's and Nighthawk Customs though...I'll stick to my $398.00 Glocks and M&P's...

Saw this on the shelf next to Sports Illustrated last week, not crammed in the back with the rest of the gun mags. Looks like "tactical" has gone mainstream. God help us.

That was my first thought, too. It's like ZS had a 1-night-stand with Maxim, and 9 months later, Recoil was born...

I bought it, though. I need something to read on the shitter.

The mag was ok, they did make a good flashy looking zine.

The article on stippling was really interesting though.

RECOIL Magazine

Postby Roguebama » Sat Feb 11, 2012 3:33 pm

I really liked the new mag. I hope it makes it. It was nice how they covered a variety of different topics. Some were for folks that aren't real knowledgeable, and some were folks in the know. I loved the layout and the photography. The story on the BOV and the "Zombie House" IMO were excellent.

I've been reading SoF since the early 90's...

Perhaps I over simplified. "Tactical" has definitely become increasingly mainstream over the last 10 years or so due to among other things the war and call of honor/medal of duty games. However this is the first time I have seen such a magazine up by the register next to SI. I am tempted to pick up a copy and read it ironically like some tactical hipster.

Complaining about things "going mainstream" is the epitome of hipster  Whatever, I mean, it's an awesome magazine on amazing topics..FSM forbid they spruce it up a bit to try to grab a larger audiences attention and maybe make some money, so as to continue pushing out their sweet magazines to the audience who enjoys it. Don't worry about what other people are into, or how much they are into it. If it's something you enjoy, that's all that matters. I don't care if this is put right next to SI, or right next to Better Homes and Gardens, it's something I have an interest in..so..no qualms here haha

Sig was like so much better when like no one bought their guns but then they like sold out to the man and their stuff has been shit ever since.

*sigh*

I know that should be happy about the increased popularity of our hobby. Things were looking pretty grim 10 years ago, but we have come a long way since then. Some have been calling the changes "gun culture 2.0". If the price of that is having to push my way through the Price and Soap cosplayers at the range then so be it.

Hahaha yeah okay, I can see how this kind of thing definitely leads to a crowded range, which sucks. I guess I'm just looking at it as the more people we have responsibly taking advantage of their 2nd amendment right, the better off we all are. Even if it all spawns from Soap and Price

I dono. It's not like I can just go pick up a set of Mjolnir Armor or MA5B Individual Combat Weapon System at the local tactical store.

^---- I want that ammo.

OT: I flipped through a copy of Recoil Magazine while on leave. Pretty good articles overall, but the one that caught my attention was the SCAR 17S at the back. Couple things in it made me, as an owner, go "Huh?", but the article did a good job with a review.

Saw this at the Dominick's (grocery) today. Considered buying it, but balked at the $9 cover price. Not that it isn't worth it: the photography is really nice, even the paper quality is better than your usual mag. But I wasn't in the mood for a nine dollar gun rag, especially considering that when I flipped through it, there wasn't anything really revolutionary: some nice knives, Benellis tricked out, and HK's M4...nice photos of all, but I decided my nine bucks would be better spent on a bottle of wine.

Will strongly consider picking up a future issue if I see something new-to-me on the cover.

Another "New" magazine to hit the shelves out there for us guys who love to predator hunt is "Predator Nation." It is brand new and they have only produced 1 issue to see how it goes over. They don't have their website up yet either, but there is much talk about it on the net. It's $3.99 an issue and full of great articles. Check it out.

In my opinion the second issue was kinda weak. Just picked up the third issue and I really like this one. Decent travel safety tips from well known people in the industry of self defense, good article on the Vector which I strangely MUST own someday, practical shooting tips, love the modded Jeep and great EDC article about what to carry. I can't wait till I can subscribe.
