So a friend of a friend posted this on FB. He works for Keller Williams in California, which means that if the applicant was also from California, he must be a hell of a guy.

Once upon a time I was interviewing MCA candidates for a market center. Met with a guy who thought it appropriate to tell me he has a permit to carry a concealed weapon! DENIED!

After many hours of trying to decide whether to say anything, I finally sent him this through a private message. It's borrowed from the Ohio gun owners card posted earlier.

It's too bad you feel that way about registered concealed carry permit holders. People who, by default.
- have no felony convictions (lifetime)
- have never been convicted of any drug offense
- have no mental defects or disabilities
- have passed a criminal history background check
I am quite active in the firearms community, and will be sure to spread the word that your company discriminates against people who have seen fit to go through the arduous process of getting their permit. Hopefully, this will prevent you from having to deal with people such as us in the future as we will take our business elsewhere.

You lost me here. He was interviewing people, and denied someone because he had a CWL, then sent him a message telling him why he should be trusted because he has a CWL, just not at that company?

I think I have it actually figured out right (in my head, not in my type), but I want to get the clarification from you.

No, he denied the guy a job because of his permit. Then saw fit to brag about it on FB. I sent him the message about why he was wrong to do so.

That makes more sense. I was lost with all the "I"s. And it's not how I thought it was. I like that you helped clarify it some.

Sorry, I should have put his comment in quotes to make it clearer. Just fixed it. Hopefully it's easier to read now.

Sounds to me like an OPSEC failure.

So the job is still open for convicted felons, mentally dysfunctional and drug users? That sounds about accurate.

Maybe so, but I can see the logic in it. Better to get these things out on the table beforehand rather than having them come to light later and lose your job over them.

I disagree. Better to never discuss them at all. Almost every employer has a "No guns at work" rule. So why would you tell them you might break that rule? If you do choose to carry against their rules, then you make sure they only find out if you have to make a good shoot. In which case, who cares if you lose your job?

Oh, it was a double dumb. The employer was dumb for turning down the applicant based on gun prejudice, and the applicant was dumb for volunteering the information when he didn't have to.

That's true, but the applicant doesn't have any control over the actions of the employer. He does have control of his own (in theory :P ).

That's kind of backwards where I work. A lot of the people that work there look at you funny if you aren't carrying. Haha. The owner keeps a pistol on them all the time and a rifle or shotgun somewhere if it's during hunting season.

On topic: It gets annoying that every time I show someone our P38, I always have at least one comment along the lines of, "Wonder how many Jews that killed!" :gonk: Considering the SS that manned the concentration camps (to my understanding: only about 90% sure) never used P38s, I'd have to venture to guess none. Speaking of 9mm, I've also heard someone say, "Yeah, you get gangbangers coming into the hospital down in Kansas City that have been shot with a .380 or a 9mm, then they go bragging about how they've been shot. Whatever... Come back when you've been shot with a a .40 or .45 and not one of those pussy rounds."

EDIT: Bolded what needed to be edited. I had a momentary lapse of memory (Thanks, Czech, for the PM) and forgot that plenty of the SS that were in with the standard fighting forces had P38s.

Same here. We have an official "No guns" policy, but half the guys there CCW, and anytime one of us gets a new gun we bring it in to show off. That's not even counting the times when my boss sends us out to a shit hole and suggests we bring along a little health insurance.

Yesterday at the range I heard a guy who was attempting to teach his friend to shoot say "glocks move to the left so you have to compensate".

I was at the gun store today, saw a guy pick up a nice milled Arsenal AK, then lift up the rear sight to vertical and try to look through it like it was some kind of enfield sight  :gonk:

Thank you so much for this! It reminds me of what our USDA inspector said about my brother's Ruger Blackhawk in .357 Magnum.

"You know why your hitting to the left, don't you?"
"Why?"
"The twist in that barrel is spinning your round to the left."

My brother may not be the most informed firearms guy, but he's not a complete retard either. Rather than tell our inspector just how wrong he was, however, he just said, "Oh." Then he let me know what he thought of this guy's opinion after he had left.

That being said, I was cleaning that pistol for my brother later. Not only does it have a right-hand twist, but I also read up on twists to see if this held any water. Apparently, twists do effect the flight path... if you're shooting artillery pieces.

Of course, we all know it was hitting left because of the Coriolis effect.

"you shouldn't carry a .380 because no one has ever been killed by one" I shit you not some one told me this when they saw me practicing with my SIG P230 at the range. Yes it is one of my carry weapons for when I do not feel like packing my P220 or can't for practical reasons. Guy said the same thing about a .38 spl someone else was shooting.
