Where do you buy your freeze dried food? Mountain House!

I know it has been covered multiple times. I will ask anyway!

What is a good source ($wise) for freeze dried food. I am specifically interested in Mountain House #10 cans. Where have you ordered yours from?

I use emergency essentials. http://beprepared.com never been disappointed with the product or service.

If you are not absolutely set on Mountain House for everything I also like Honeyville. http://store.honeyvillegrain.com/ Great quality and a little less expensive. My wife loves the cream of broccoli soup and I really like the hash browns and hot chocolates.

I can't speak to Mountain House, as I usually buy ingredients rather than meals. But I can eat the Honeyville freeze-dried cheese out of the can as a snack food and I've found their prices to be good.

theepicenter.com is where I get most my stuff (freeze dried Mountain House and MRE's/MRE components), but I've also dealt with emergency essentials. Both are good-to-go sellers.

prepared.pro

Good prices, especially good if you buy their lifetime buyers club membership ($20 IIRC) and free shipping as well, member or not. I buy quite a bit from them.

I get my Moutain House and Saratoga Farms #10 canned stuff from here:

http://www.thereadystore.com/food-storage/supply-size/10-cans

I don't know how their prices compare, but they usually have the stuff "in stock" when others don't.

Thank you, guys!
Which #10 would you suggest I start with? I mean, what type of meals?

A lot of gun shows have Mountain House as a vendor selling meals and they have free samples to try. Otherwise I would go to Walmart or REI and buy some of the one meal bags and actually try some before you purchase larger quantities. They are great for backpacking too.

I like:
Beef Stroganoff, Chili Mac and cheese, raspberry crumble, and the chicken teriyaki is pretty good. I was a bit disappointed with the neopolitan ice cream and find the eggs acceptable if you have salsa. For Eggs I would go with Ova easy instead of the regular powdered eggs. They are a bit more expensive but taste much better in my opinion.

Well, that all depends on your tastes. What I find enjoyable, someone else might not. It might be a good idea to first "sample" the different offerings by buying the smaller portion size packs first, until you find ones you and your family like...then get the #10 cans of your favorites.

I personally could live off of Mountain House's Breakfast Skillet, Chicken & Rice and Lasagna. Those three are tops for me...there's a few others I like too, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

The chowder and stews are good (in my opinion), and can be thinned down and put over white rice to stretch the amount. Make sure not to pay full price though, look for the 25% off sales. Someone somewhere will have one. But due to MAP, you usually won't see an ongoing low price place. They pretty much have to be sold at MSRP, with each vendor having up to 3 sales per year (as far as I understand it). Some will give you store credit on other goods (not MH) for MH purchases as a way around that. But 25% off case prices + free shipping should be fairly easy.

I like LDPcamping because you can mix and match #10 cans in an order. About $1000 gets you 6 cases of mixed dinner/entrees after discount with free shipping.

These guys run a HUGE sale twice a year which is when I always buy. Why pay retail? Sale prices are 20 or 25% off. Very pleased with the service and packaging - NO DENTS.
