Every place is different... But the tone should always be respectful and polite...
A lot of times, it's simply ignorance that places the sign on the door... I think it's better to let the powers that be (however you think best at the time) your concerns...
It shouldn't be a gun issue, it should be a customer service issue...
Edit; sorry about the derail... Just in case, Dumbest... can both point to the people who put up the sign, and those who either ignore it, or assume that it's another antigun deal... Which it may not be...
Honestly, I didn't and don't blame the people at the restaurant for their reaction. I felt like it was at least partially a failure on my part, that I made them more apprehensive about guns instead of less so.
