Honestly, I didn't and don't blame the people at the restaurant for their reaction. I felt like it was at least partially a failure on my part, that I made them more apprehensive about guns instead of less so.

I dunno... A lot of people go most of their lives without ever seeing a gun in real life... The first time they see one it can be a WTF moment... I firmly believe that the more exposure someone gets, the less "boogyman" effect the gun has...

Too many people have the idea that only LEOs, Military, and bad guys carry guns...

We should all think not just as exercising a right, but also as ambassadors of the gun culture to those who may have never made up their mind... If we behave the douche, they will see us as an example of all gun owners... But if we behave with respect and confidence, but not arrogance...

Back on topic...

That MAY have been the result, but it wasn't your fault- you open carried, didn't live up to any of the hype that would portray you as "a gun nut", or commit a crime. In cases like this, the minds are already made up, and nothing you do will change them.

We have a similar law in Ohio. A "no guns" sign has the force of law.

SeerSavant wrote:However anyone approaches the management, the important thing is to convey that this isn't a small thing, that they are in effect telling people to go away...

Ohioans for Concealed Carry sells these "no guns, no money" cards to hand out to business owners who post no guns signs.

Image

The picture is kind of hard to read. Text is as follows:

Front: "We have noticed your sign, and are going to respect your wishes by shopping elsewhere. You lost my business today and in the future. For your convenience, you will be added to our 'Do Not Patronize' database."

Back: "As an Ohio Concealed Handgun License holder, I
- have no felony convictions (lifetime)
- have never been convicted of any drug offense
- have no mental defects or disabilities
- have passed a criminal history background check
How much do you know about your other customers?"
"To be governed is to be watched, inspected, directed, indoctrinated, numbered, estimated, regulated, commanded, controlled, law-driven, preached at, spied upon, censored, checked, valued, enrolled, by creatures who have neither the right, nor the wisdom, nor the virtue to do so." — Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

Moving on:

I was BS'ing with some of my new 1/8 guys, a sniper among them. Another sniper I served with last time mentioned that he has API rounds for the SASR.

Sniper#2: "Man, I love those things. Even if you shoot past 3,000m with 'em, they Blow up when they hit."
Me: "API doesn't have C4. Besides, when the last time you took a shot past 3 klicks?"
Sniper #2: "Not three klicks, three thousand meters man."
Me and Sniper #1 : :gonk:

So by calling him Sniper #2 can I safely assume you're covering up his actual job title? Lemme guess at what it is though. Man in charge of stick to stir burning shit. Or do they just give the title "sniper" to those that can make hits reliably, even though they have no formal sniper training?

Sniper #2 is a school trained sniper, got his tooth and everything. As I tell people all the time, just because you shoot for a living, doesn't mean you are a gun-expert. Or in this case, ammo expert. Same3 reason I laugh every time I hear the ".50 call dismembers/kills/anally violates people even when it misses" myth followed by "my Army/SEAL/Marine sniper buddy told me about it. I laugh because I've spotted for a SASR before (ouch. Wear earpro.) and if I called a target beyond 1500m, the Chief Scout who was firing just yelled "next" because the windage and elevation changes were too much to make a good hit. Although on a less windy day, I did confirm a COM shot at 2050m-ish.

Regardless, the 'splodey bullets thing was bad, but the meters/kilometers thing killed me.

That is why I questioned his training. You don't have to be an expert to be good, but to be good for long, you have to know your equipment.

As a gunsmith who has actually looked at that stuff, that isn't very far off. Actually it's more like a piece of hacksaw blade ground down to a specific width (and preferable sans teeth) with a few specific cuts and a few specific bends in it placed in a specific location of the trigger group that prevents the trigger bar from disconnecting from the sear. This leaves the disconnector to function as an auto sear.

After have built a few flights of wooden stairs, I can honestly say that it would be so damn hard to destroy a flight of stairs with an ax. You'd be there for days.

Then I envisioned some goof ball actually trying it.

I bet an M2 with it's Depleted Uranium, C4 explosive round could do it in seconds. Would that be the M-DUC4 round?

Oh, well, OK then...

Heard second hand tonight when I came into work, so it's not a direct quote, but: "There's only four inches of oil left in the tank- I'm shutting off the boilers and water heater." from our "maintenance man". Still not sure what the logic to this was, but it's going below freezing tonight here...so yeah, let's turn the heat OFF until the oil delivery gets here.

I could see turning it off when the oil arrives, for an hour or so, till the tank settles, but ALL NIGHT? smh...

I was reminded of this one today. When I was twenty I sat on a civil jury.

There was one spot left to fill on the jury and they asked the guy up if was a native Oklahoman, to which he responds "no sir, I ain't an Indian".

So the judge explains to him while everyone is laughing that they wanted to know if he was born in Oklahoma, and he is quick to point out "sir iam from Texas, and I wasn't an Indian there either".

My job involves dealing with people who have some sort of mental illness.

Once I was asked, by a rather high functioning individual, if I thought a taxi would pick up her son and carry him across town, alone, to basketball practice. She was unable to do this because of her fibromyalgia.

The son was five at the time.

"So how will he get back?"

"A taxi would have to pick him up." In a tone of voice that screamed: DUH!!!

It took me awhile to process that she actually wanted to send her son off alone to the other side of town so she could nap and recover from her hard day of sitting on her ass.

Ouch. On the other hand, now I know that as long as I'm within 200 meters of the shooter, the G36 is not effective on me! Enojy!

I was at the feed store the other day picking up some stuff for our animals. One of the old-timers helping to load my truck noticed some old shell casings in the bed and struck up a conversation. When I told him that the majority of the stuff was cheap-o russian ammo he proceeded to "school" me about the importance of having a chrome lined barrel and that if I shot steel cased ammo in a rifle that didn't have a chromed lined barrel, I would ruin the rifle.

Hi. I'm looking to barter my two katanas.

Both retail for about $875-$1,000 a piece.

These are Paul Chen, handmade, battle-ready, razor sharp, full tang katanas. The REAL DEAL. These are made to be USED, not be displayed. They are battle-ready.

I'm looking to sell or barter for home protection devices, AR-15, or similar. Any kind of protection. Please e-mail me if interested.

Somebody is growing up.
