Today's Gunshow = Failsauce

Postby Krypticklown » Sun Feb 05, 2012 6:34 pm

*RANT ON*
So I decided to go to the Eastman Gunshow today in Savannah, GA. I usually make it a point not to go to the Eastmanshow simply because the traders just have the "New-In-Box" Guns that I can get from any local gunshop for the same price if not cheaper. I like other shows hosted such as Gun-Runners, etc.etc...but never so much luck with the Eastman. I get there and I've went to them regularly for the past three years in this area, but for some ungodly reason the fellow patrons acted like a gunshow was a new unique concept to them. I talked to the patrol man who checks the guns and he said over 20+ people brought in loaded weapons and acted surprised and even pissed that they had their ammo or magazine (their choice) taken from them at the door. *DERP* Two gentlemen were fistfighting over a CZ pistol because one bumped into the other, police of course brokem them up. And finally; the best of the worst: a guy bought 9mm ammo and decided to load his magazine outside of the show and accidently discharged the gun into his left thigh....needless to say I don't know what was worse; the show-or the people.

Holy shit!
Good thing you made it out in one piece! Bad thing is the shit is gonna hit the fan once the media gets ahold of this. I pretty much had a win today though. Granted I'm wondering if all of the aggression was due to it being a superbowl weekend?

Ive only been to one decent gun show in Savannah, and I can even remember who hosted it. It was outside the main city, and it's where I bought my Golani. Every other one Ive been to was exactly the same as you described it.

I never even thought of that, I mean the shows usually are crap, but the relentlessly incoherent crowd could be because of superbowl weekend....

I'm just generally not a fan of gun shows. Prices usually range from "ok" to "ridiculous" though the occasional good/great deal can be found. Also safety is a concern as I'm generally uneasy about being around that many random people and firearms. The last one I was at some old coot with a longarm over his shoulder was repeatedly near missing whacking people in the head with the barrel. I actually had to duck while walking down the aisle near him as he rotated a bit to look at something across the room while talking to somebody. My comment that he should pay attention to what he was doing fell on deaf ears as I saw him nearly hit somebody else in the head about a minute later...

I have fond memories of some though. I remember the first one I went to twenty years ago or so and seeing a giant pile of old cheap rifles and shotguns just stacked on top of each other. The butt of the stock on one caught me eye and I started carefully digging and moving the pile around so I could get to it. Most of the longarms were beat up and cheap. Turns out a mint condition Steyr SSG69 was buried in there. I was thinking score! Until I saw that the guy did know what he had and it was priced accordingly, sob. Why it was buried under all the crap I'll never know.

Probably not. As much as I hate to say it, an ND at a gun show isn't really news. I'm not saying its commonplace but it happens often enough that its more of a "shit, how did it happen this time?" than a "holy shit, how did that happen?".

 THIS is why I dont go to gun shows, and also once you factor in ticket price and parking costs, I never end up saving any money on effing anything.

I would enjoy gunshows more if some of the attendees would shower or bathe first before leaving the house.

Yeah, seriously.

The last couple I've been to have been really disappointing... Crappy used guns, super expensive (and really beat down looking) "collector" guns, crappy new guns, no good ammo deals, lots of attitude from sellers. Not the awesome experience of the past. I've been happier dealing with either my local shops or mail order vendors.

Your buddy at the gunshow made the news:

I love gun shows; at best, you find a good deal or 2, at worst, it's a fascinating social experiment that has Darwin rolling in his grave.

I love gun shows also, but lately they have been disappointing in terms of prices, selection and variety.

The people who come to the local gun shows honestly scare the hell out of me. I routinely see gang bangers making straw purchases. They look over guns, get on a cell phone describe prices/weapons and then purchase the weapon.

I have pointed these out to LEOs on site and even asked some of the vendors about the blatant ones only to be met with hostile reactions from both.

It is enough to make a person want to report it to the BATF.

Hell, you might be watching "fast & furious II". I've seen those transactions too & they really piss me off, is a few bucks profit really worth it?

I was considering videoing the last one I saw but was reminded that there is a "No Cameras" policy by a LEO. It made me wonder who the No Camera policy is supposed to protect.

That was the one where the person on the phone said to the person on the other end:
"Are you sure that is the one you want?"

I mean come on how blatant do you have to be to get caught.

Yeah, not my buddy in the slightest; I was just unlucky enough to be around him when it happened. And truely the Darwinism of it all is grand.

^This. It's $8 here for the big one once a month. I've only bought a couple used glock mags for range use, and have been probably 4 times. I usually go just to make myself feel a little more sane in comparison to some of the other people that go. However, they probably say the same thing looking at me

Also, at least that guy had the courtesy to go outside before his nd. Some jackalope popped on off here inside somehow several months ago.

The Eastman shows are just garbage. The only deals to be found are obviously Army "surplus" items. Still kinda think I should have bought that acog for $450. But didn't really feel comfortable about it.

QFT. I missed an ND at a Bill Goodman's show in Dayton a few months back by 5 minutes. Turns out a crimson trace rep had a loaded personal firearm on display and the patron picked it up and without checking if it was clear first fired a round through the table. I hate selling at shows too, everyone bought that gun for 40 bucks somewhere else...

Are the Bill Goodman show's still at Hara Arena? I always half-expected to receive a Hi-Point as a door prize. If you want a good deal, you have to get there early before the meth-heads and white-supremists. Although, 10 years ago I did score my W. German Sig 226 there for $400. Gawd, I hate Dayton--thanks a lot mom and dad.

Anyway, I do enjoy the gunshows here in Greenville. There are usually some decent vendors and not everyone is a straw buyer wearing Insane Clown Posse t-shirts. Hell, the guys at Upstate Armory really hooked me up on my Glocks and Spikes USMC lower last year.

Yes they are still there. I go rarely. As my Uncle once said, "Dayton should be nuked..."
