I tacticooled my Ruger 10/22

Postby Thor » Thu Dec 29, 2011 9:48 pm

my wife bought me a new barrel for Christmas, and I took the Christmas money from my in-laws (bless their heart) and tacticooled the rest of the plinker.

Here's the original 10/22

And here's the final product.

New parts:
Green Mountain Fluted Bull-barrel - Blued
Archangle Stock kit
Volquartsen Automatic Bolt Release
Volquartsen High Performance Action Parts Kit (took the trigger weight from 7 pounds down to 2.5 pounds)
UAG QD Quick Detach Short Stubby Low Profile Tactical Aluminum Picatinny Rifle Vertical Foregrip

And the part that will arrive this weekend . . .
Vortex StrikeFire Hunting Version Red Dot Riflescope

I am not normally a fan of this but that looks pretty badass, the perfect look to go with that barrel. Let us know how she shoots.

Will do. I have a feeling that I am going to need to ad some shims to the bottom of the forward. Since it looks to me like it's not lined up with the barrel correctly. I guess once my optics show up and I get it to the range I'll know for sure.

I assume you don't have an AR?

Typically not my cup of tea either, but I'd say that for that type of mod you did great. Looks like it would be a great trainer for an AR platform.

Congrats.

Not really. Different fire control. Different magazine operation. Different operation for clearing FTF and FTE. Aside from looks it is not anything like an AR.

Mmm...OK.

I use my AR for AR training. I know some people like to use .22 analogs
.

Edited for clarity.

The reason for training with a particular weapon is to make yourself more familiar with the operation and function said weapon (not taking tactics into account). If your training weapon does not have the same operation and function as your go to weapon then you are sort of missing the point (again not taking tactics into account).

But we are getting off topic of the tacticool 10/22

I dont know much about 10/22 or there upgrades. The barrel looked like a heay fluted bull barrel i may be wrong , but is it supposed to be free floating? Meaning it dose not contact the stock to help remove stock pressuer on the barrel and help accuracy.

I don't how accurate the barrel is, but without sights I'd say you're loosing some accuracy!

Yea, I get it. I've had formal training and I compete in multigun. It was just an off hand comment, no need to try to school me, but thanks anyway.

Not trying to school you. Just didn't want people to get the wrong idea. With as many people out there with misconceptions about this that and the other..

I do have an AR mine's chambered in 7.62x39, but .22 is cheap as dirt. I'll shoot a .22 all day long and not apologize one bit for having a blast LOL.

The stock is designed for a free floating barrel, and yes it is a free floating barrel.

Which is why I haven't taken it to the range yet.

My optics have not arrived yet.

This is going on top of it.

Nice 10/22, bro. I am sure you enjoy the heck out of it once your optics arrive...

Tacticool 22lr aside, there sure is a whole lot of dick measuring going on in this thread. Calm down killers.
