Plan on getting one. A co-worker has one, and it is NICE. He has the one pictured below.

When you do post a review, is this going to be a wilderness tool or suburban breacher like so many people seem to use hawks for these days?

It'll be my camping implement. I'll be sure to post a good review, with pictures, of how well she serves me.

$1200 for a tomahawk? are people getting crazy in the states. Get a cold steel trail hawk and live your life happy. I do abuse mine every time when I go camping and its like new.

Saludos.

Where'd the $1200 come from? Site that OP linked lists it at $160.

Personally, I think the hammer poll version would be more useful as a camp tool. Cuts and drives tent stakes, etc.

Ahhh. The custom ones. The pic of the hawk linked was $160 though. The ones on the front page are custom work. I wouldn't pay that for one unless I was heavily in to reenacting that time period or some such. Now an Albion "Norman" w/ scabbard goes for about $2K and if I had it, I'd buy it, so I can't cast stones even at the $1200.

Yeah, the custom ones are expensive. But, gold inlays, and fancy engraving will do that. Being all done by hand and everything...

I was referring to the $160 version. I can beat that against a tree and not feel too bad.

Very nice work nastysmell!

Way to one up the OP lol, thats a sick tomahawk there!
Spike hawks are pretty usefull in the woods (I don't currently own one) for digging in hard soil and can be used to quickly and carefully dig up wild edible roots/bulbs. Worried that you can't drive tent pegs?
Use the flat side of the head of course!
Hands down a good tomahawk or hatchet is one of the best woods tools in my AO.
cheers

I've been eyeballing a Cold Steel Trench Hawk for a while now. I pretty much just want it for that spike lol. It just looks too cool, like something out of Conan or LOTR.

I recently used my Shrike for camping. I would definitely consider going with the hammer-poll if it's going to be used for that primarily. Very difficult to drive stakes into the ground with the flat side of a spiked hawk without destroying the tent/tipi.

YMMV

It is very pretty, however :D

I didn't mean tp imply that it was easy, just that you realy don't loose any versatility with a spike hawk.

Truth be told, I didn't even see the post where you mentioned those things

I agree, you don't lose versatility, it just makes driving stakes a tiny bit more difficult. We now pack a small rubber mallet with the stakes.

Problem solved

... or use the hawk to cut a small wooden club, then use the club to drive stakes.

How dare you enter practicality into this conversation!

Good idea though, and it beats using a rock, which is my usual tool.

Hmm...I read this like a dozen times and still don't get the joke. Care to explain.
Also, slightly off topic; could someone list the differences (pros/cons) between a hatchet and a tomahawk? Thanks.
