Yours thoughts about The Firearms Academy of Seattle

Postby JustInCase » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:47 pm

I am thinking about taking a course or two from them within the next year or so. But before paying out that kind of money I was wondering if anyone has gone through some of their courses. If so what is the "good, bad, and ugly?"

Thanks

It is good training for new shooters. It is good training for refreshers for people that haven't had training a while. It isn't the newest, or latest high speed, low drag training ala Magpul or Grey Group or Vickers. I went to four of their classes.
Thanks Anianna!

I've taken a couple handgun classes there and I've really enjoyed them. I have no complaints, other than the fact that it's nowhere near Seattle, in the middle of nowhere. The instruction is solid, they're very safety conscious, and I came out of the class a much better shooter. I was very happy with the experience. The classroom sessions are kinda boring, but highly informative. I'm trying to think of something negative to say... There are no flush toilets?

I've trained at with Insights, FAS, and Front Sight.

FAS was excellent, Marty can be pretty intense at times but he's first rate and so is the operation.

Insights was good, but they where working out of WSI - an indoor range near Factoria (no longer there) and didn't have nearly the variety that Marty can offer. Not familiar with Insights current location or curriculum.

Looks interesting, I did simunitions with Dane Burns at FAS - but then I'm not sure Dane is doing that anymore (it's been a long time).

If you've never work with siminitions - it's really quite fun but it can also be painful - I took two rounds to the gut though a double shirt - and it left huge welts - range about 6". We were running the 21' knife drill and the goal was to see if you could get the gun out and fire before you got tagged - my shooter decided better late than never and fired after getting a knife to the kidney :) Technically I won but it sure didn't feel like it.

We where all required to wear full face and neck protectors, I perhaps stupidly declined the vest :) ---Learn and live.
