March Bugout --- Complete!

Postby Spamity Calamity » Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:27 pm

Update! The dates will be March 2-4 at Tejas Park in Georgetown. We will be heading out on Friday but will have a meetup time and location for people that can only do Saturday and Sunday.

Edit* the date for the bugout has been moved to the first weekend in March. This will be an actual bugout. There will be no car camping and we will be hiking out to the camp site in order to force the individual to rely solely on their bags. This will be an actual shakedown so pack accordingly.

I thought I would start a thread on the upcoming march bug out. We can use to to coordinate what we are gonna do, talk about the current state of our bug out bags, things like that.

What about Sulphur Springs? It's REALLY beautiful. You can camp right by the river and there was a pretty neat trail I hiked on. http://bendtexas.com/

I've camped there too, eons ago. Very nice place. That's the weekend my dad turns 89, though, so we will be celebrating with him.

Don't confuse a belligerent and aggressive attitude with the strength, training, and conditioning needed to prevail in a fight. How do you know you have the Will To Win, if you don't even have the will to train?

Greetings,

I know that I am new here but I would want to make this too. Or do you have to be a paid member to go? I also would like to give a thumbs up to sulphur springs as well.

While we certainly encourage active, participating members to go contribute, we don't exclude anybody. Otherwise how could we meet new people?

Man, I think Sulphur Springs might be the place to go then.

Well the date isn't set in stone. We could move the date if it meant you or phil could make it.

I have a big recruiting event that weekend (the 25th) and the one before it (the 18th), but i can probably wiggle out of either of them if its not too long of a drive. the weekends of the 4th or the 11th of February are completely free though.

It looks like the bug out is being moved to the first weekend in March instead. How would that work for you? What about the others?

barring random events, that works just fine.

Count me in! It would be nice if the location included a place to drop a line in the water. What do you think? Wish I could help with locations but being new to the area I'm clueless. :(

The new date is better, but still iffy for me... my calendar is filling up fast. Signed up for wilderness first aid course the weekend of the tenth and a bunch of work stuff in march too... Don't move on my behalf, but I'll try and schedule it if possible (wife won't be excited about 3 weekends of me out of town in a row).

@ Helix . I agree. It just isnt camping if there isnt some kind of body of water nearby. So we need to find a place that has a campground with a short hike to get to AND water nearby. I have an Aquamira Fronier Pro water filter I just ordered for my BOB so I too would like to try it out on something.

@GunsUp We're not just moving it on your behalf. A number of people just couldn't make it work that weekend and we decided to move it when we got together at the range day on Saturday. I totally understand though, it would be hard to convince my wife that I need to be gone three weekends in a row. She wouldn't be having much of that  . If you can't make it I understand buddy.

The place needs to have a primitive camping area accessible after around 3-4 miles or so. Have a body of water. Allow campfires and be in the central texas area of course. Any ideas?

Edit* Glitch just called me moments after posting this and recommended Tejas park. I got to say, I think this one might be a good one to do. It meets all of the requirements and its a lot more centrally located than Sulphur Springs. It has camping areas at different areas so we can decide on how far we want to hike on the loop before we make camp.

I'm really liking it! :D Lots of access points, plenty of water opportunities, interesting points along the way, and close. Couldn't be more perfect for what we are looking for. Add me to the friday start wish list. Might be able to swing it where those that can start on friday can do so and have a meet up point for saterday night? Just a thought. Psyched, just wish it was this weekend; it's kind of like waiting for you birthday to get here. :(

I really like the idea of having some people start friday afternoon, and then have a meeting point where we can meet the others on saturday. Now would the 2 nighters be using 2 different campsites, or just make a base camp and work from there?

also, i want to start on friday. 8-)
