I got a leatherman wave as a father's day gift 2 years back.

I don't leave home without it unless i'm getting on a plane. my favorite tool besides the phillps/standard tip screwdriver by far is the little scissors. I also like that I have both a serrated and non serrated blade.

i had then original leatherman multitool , i also had SOG, Gerber and toolzilla.

i carried the sog and gerber during YEARS , so i have a good opinion on them.

the gerber was a pretty neat little tool. i loved to flick the pliers out with a move of my wrist, there was just the needed tool in it, no useless gadget only good stuff, but there was some minor problem with screw and the pliers could get stuck when cutting a wire too thick.

and my SOG, my actual EDC in all time, my favorite one. i have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG TO SAY AGAIN IT. i love it, like the gerber it have only the needed tools, all really practical. and the powerlock is wonderful, really strong, i could cut MIG wire when i was welding without any problem i also cut barbered wire once without problem, also plenty of hanger. the wood saw helped me at work once when a branch was in our way and we had nothing to cut it and it was too big to break it and i had that SOG, it took me 2-3 min but i finally cut it and moved it out of the way.

Got a couple of different ones - A leatherman wave that I love, a gen 1 multitasker for the ARs, and a p4 squirt that survived a trip through the feeder and drive mech of a 25mm gun intact. I mailed my son an elcheapo wally world "Winchester" brand to the sandbox right after he went over. Suprisingly it lasted his entire tour holding up to what he called daily deliberate abuse - and this is from a kid that broke an LMF. I've asked for that one back

I have a bit of a fetish for multitools
I have several grebe military 600 series. they are OK but stay in kits so there is a multitool there if I happen to not have one.
I have had several SOG models given to me and after my first SOG experience (generalized tool explosion) I will not own them...they usually get re-gifted
Leatherman brands are my favorite. I have a classic that has retired to my tackle box, several surge models (my favorite) two waves both are in the EDC-BOB my wife and I have. and one MUT. the MUT is great and would be my favorite but there is no can opener on it and is a little heavy for my liking. the MUT stays on my fighting kit
the thing I like most about leather mans especially the wave, surge, MUT models is almost everything on it is replaceable.

I carry a Leatherman Super Tool every day. Got it as a birthday present 14 years ago. The original leather sheath is nearly worn through on one corner, but still quite functional. Small screwdriver tip broke off, and medium screwdriver tip bent a little. Some day I'll get around to sending it in for warranty repair. Also have a Leatherman Wave I picked up maybe 4 years ago. I was rather displeased with the leather/elastic sheath it came with. The diamond file it has is quite nice though. Just used it last night to put a decent edge on a very old and abused Stanley hatchet.

I go back and forth about which one I like better, but carry the Super Tool because the Wave's sheath is so lame.

Haven't had much experience with other brands' multitools, only handled a few Gerbers many years ago, but I pretty firmly a Leatherman fan.

Gerber Multi-Plier 400 Compact Sport Black


Bought this when I was like 13 or 14 at Cabelas. Spent way to much on it at the time, and really just bought it to say I bought something at Cabelas to my friends. Turns out that I still have it now and use it very frequently. It has been all over the United States. My model came with the various sized sockets and screwdrivers. I keep it in dual pocket pouch in the glove box of my truck. The other pouch holds a Mini-Mag.

When I was young I abused the heck out of it and left it out in the rain for a decent period of days. There was some minor rust on it, which I cleaned off using literally only a paper towel. This was a while ago, and it still looks good as new. My favorite feature is the one handed opening since I have been holding an item in one hand and had only one remaining hand to open the tool with. Its actually pretty convenient though it does take some getting use to (all in the wrist ). The other notable features are that the scissors on it are actually designed by Fiskars so they are very durable and they last. Also quite a fan of the black non-reflective coating.

May consider getting a Gerber Multi-Plier 600 Compact Sport Black in the future if money permits.

I tipped over from multitool enthusiast to multitool collector last year, so I have quite a few. I am at over twenty Leatherman tools (not including keychain size) as well as several SOGs and a couple Gerbers. I know the OP wants pictures, but that's a lot of pictures.

Has anyone ever owned a Schrade tough tool? I'm looking for a cheap multitool to put in my storage kits. I have some of those emergency essentials high unta gear cheapos and they need to be replaced/upgraded.

I've got a couple of them around. One of the old Gerber hand-pinchers, a newer Gerber Diesel, and the Gerber that comes in the big Otis Mil-Spec M16 cleaning kit.

I've also got a CRKT ZillaTool (big, especially considering all it has are a knife, pliers and a bit driver) and a leatherman around here somewhere.

I've got the right tools for just about any job at home and at work, with the tools for automotive type repairs in my truck. So I'm not sure why I feel the need to even own a multi-tool.

I would post an Image of mine, but my Dad got it for me so it has my name engraved on it. It's a very nice tool, that's served me well. I used to have a Leatherman Juice for EDC, but it fell apart on me, not durable enough.

I think they do, see them advertised all the time on LM website and such. I have one also and it is a good little vice grip. My Dad loves his Kershaw multitool that has the locking pliers but they quit making those. Crunch is about all there is on the market now. I never see Crunches at stores though, only online.... well there was this knife shop in my area that had one on display and marked up ridiculously a few years ago I got mine off Craig'slist for $40 (used).

I have a crunch and I edc'd it for a few years. I really liked the idea of locking pliers. There are a whole range new clamp like uses for locking pliers. That said, there are some disadvantages to it. First it has very few tools. No can opener. No saw. No needle nose. And the reason I believe it gets overlooked, you have to assemble the thing with 2 hands.
Also a file/screwdriver combo is not a good idea IMHO.

I now edc a wave.

Ps... It was not until after I replaced it that u realized that the crunch has an integral hex driver. I should have read the manual better!

There was a definite mindset among the multitool designers that one handed opening was a desirable feature At the time when the crunch came out. Just off the top of my head the sog para tool, and power lock as well as the entire range of telescoping gerbers were "one flick to pliers" tools. The wave and the more modern leatherman tools at leat feature the one handed knives. The kershaw tool was nice. But it didnt collapse at all. It was essentially like carrying a small needle nose vise grips.

Leatherman managed to design a tool that had locking pliers, and was basically the same size as the original pst. An impressive bit of design IMHO, but not one without sacrifice.

I had a surge, but that thing is just way to bulky, I never used it. So I sold it, got the juice, and now it lives in my pockets.

I only have two that I use all the time, a leatherman wave, and a leatherman micra. I absolutely love the scissors on it. I probably use them more then any other tool.
