I'm ok with either camping at the range, or at Goodell (or anywhere, really). Shitters is a plus, shelters is a minus. Anyone that camps under a shelter will have their man card revoked. :-) Besides, it wasn't really that effective, was it?

Since Entropy will be in firing condition before Wintergeddon, access to the range is a big plus. :-)

Jan 27th works fine for me.

Sounds like we have a consensus on the when, last weekend of Jan. Can someone re-list the where options again?

I say lock the dates.

As for a location, I just suggested a more central location, near Skykomish maybe. It seems that if it's equidistant for everyone, then more people would go.

I am in. 4 wheel drive from the tacoma area. Have room for maybe 2 more folks and gear. Santa brought me a kelly kettle that I want to try out. BTW, if we are bringing bang sticks, should we bring out field gear for the "eyes blacked out tacticool photo" someone asked about a couple of weeks ago?
One of the eighty.

Of every one-hundred men,
Ten shouldn't even be there.
Eighty are nothing but targets.
Nine are real fighters....
We are lucky to have them,
They make the battle. Ah, but one,
One of them is a Warrior....
He will bring the others home.

I was the one that asked about the photo, but unfortunately I won't be able to attend Wintergeddon XII. Feel free to take a picture anyways, hopefully there will be another time when I can be in it :(

I could probably participate in this also.

However, The Newhalem Range would be a HAUL for me. 5 hours and 20 minutes, according to google...! I would prefer something a bit more southerly, but don't let me change your minds if you're already set on that location.

But, if it is held at the Newhalem Range, that would give us opportunity for armed incursions over the border of our neighbors to the north. You know, just to stir the pot a bit, lol.

Is this (presumably) at or above the snowline? Is there another thread with details/pics of the last one?

I just spoke with the Rangers in Central WA. If we want to go someplace other than Newhalen, It'll be a big hassle. The Rangers are on edge this week and the things we want to do will be subjected to a special use permit. So, NewHalen then?

Results from last year start here:

http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=70569&start=138

Sorry to be mostly absent from this thread, been busy with life.. working on major life decisions etc... Actually was not sure I would be able to make it this year. Still not 100% but more likely than last week so... Bring it! :D

And as always, I refuse to 'prepare' for this event, just bring what I got and hope it works out. :-) Hey, it's worked so far for the most part. I see 3 wintergeddon tags on my sig and I'm coming back for more, so that has to count for something! Will bring tarps for a tipi since trees are somewhat available. Who's got the firewood?

Also, I'll be bringing my upgraded tripod setup from August with a nicer/larger grill area (less tippy, and various skill-builders TBD :-) (think chemistry)

As for the dates, I recommend that since the last weekend of January has no holiday, we should pick either the Friday or the Monday to be suggested as the optional 3rd day. I am glad to use a vacation day, just need to know which one to pick. :-) Either one is fine with me.

Are we still on for this? I haven't heard any updates, and I want to start gearing up, especially since the weather is supposed to turn to crap starting this weekend.

I propose Friday Jan 27- Sun Jan 29 at the Newhalem Range, unless someone has a better idea. I've never been there, and I don't know if they need permits or what. One of you vets from Wintergeddons Past chime with that.

Let's shit or get off the pot.

As for the date and location, the weekend of the 27 – 30 of January is it. Location seems to be Newhalem Range, unless Big B chimes in and say that the range is not available for us to camp out on, in which case we will likely relocate this to the same campground as last year. I will personally be out there Friday night the 27th and likely leave early on the 28th as I have to go out of town very early on Monday for work. However long everyone is allowed to stay will be determined by Big B and his hookup so he will have to chime in on that as well.

It looks like the turnout may be a little light this year as some are not too solid on their attendance capabilities.

We are going to try to shoot at least one day while we are there so bring your stuff. Just keep it locked in your BOV until the range is made safe and ready to use. This is important for everyone to follow as range safety violators will be asked to depart. Stay safe and keep everyone around you safe as well.

Also, remember that this is a seriously cold and nasty time of year in the mountains so please be prepared. You will not be hiking in too far from your vehicle. Bring spares of all safety gear and make sure you are taking care of yourself. It is no black mark to throw in the towel if you are in over your head. I did the first year and until I ponied up some dough and bought some expensive (because I am not good) gear I was not going to make it very far in a Wintergeddon scenario.

If they are predicting snow in Seattle this week, just imagine what they are predicting for the Newhalem area.

I would like to attend, but have to be realistic. I am a fat bastard who walks about 2-4 miles a day, but still a fat bastard. Is the hike in doable by someone who isn't exactly in Rambo shape?

I do have a kelly kettle though :P They are serious awsome.

The walk in will be very short as we are not able to lock in a location that would allow serious snow shoeing into the camp site. However, serious snowshoeing can be had very near the selected camp site. But as long as you are prepared for the weather and the cold you should be fine on this trip.

I, too, am a fat bastard. This has not prevented attendance at every Wontergeddon to date. One does not need to be a svelte hero to go and have a miserable time!

Roads are open. There are some pretty slick areas though (compact snow and ice). WA DOT is doing a good job though.

We have probably a foot and a half of snow right now, but it's kind of hard to tell since the wind is Howling and making snow drifts. Last forecast I saw said a mix of snow and rain this weekend (with lows in the 20's and teens) then we are soposed to get more snow next week.

I'll try to keep this thread updated as the date gets closer.

Finally added to the calendar since we all agree on the date, and I finally noticed I didn't have it in there already. I had a moment of panic mixed with joy that it could possibly have been scheduled for THIS weekend. That would be epic timing to deal with the hardship of travel on minimally passable roads to get to a remote site and spend the weekend sharing stories around the campfire while the rest of the state digs out of what the news has called 'Snowmageddon'. However, I prefer that to what we did last year. No slush please...
