"Snoqualmie Pit"
- Shooting pit in Snoqualmie pass off I-90
- AKA: "Pathfinders Pit"
- Location: N47.366531, W121.509132 (Needs to be verified)
- Directions: I-90 East to exit 47, make a right over the bridge, make a right to NF-55, take it until you reach NF-5510 and go left. Go around 5 miles and find the Shooting Pit on left hand side.

Last weekend I went to the pit on FS Road 70, off Highway 410 a little past Enumclaw. There was a group of about five guys who had set up one of those barbecue tent shelter things and had a table and what looked like about a grand worth of ammo, but other than that there was no one else out there and it's a huge pit. A lot further from me than the Snoqualmie pit, but here in about a month if the Forest Service has its way, it's gonna be the only game in town.

Oh ok I didn't know there was one off I90, but there is a pit in snoqualmie that's specifically for snoqualmie valley rifle club members. So if anyone's interested you could do that and maybe save money on gas? Rather than mobin out to the pass or enumclaw for that matter

The whole point of going to a gravel pit is so I don't have to pay rifle club fees or adhere to their ridiculous 1-round-in-the-rifle-at-a-time rule. Some rifle range employees have shitty attitudes too, and that's another thing I can do without.

I was just throwing it out there, there is an annual fee yeah but you would be spending that money towards gas if you mob up to the pass or enumclaw, there is no range master cause they expect you to follow the basic don't be a dumbass/ safety rules. And best thing is its not going anywhere cause its privately owned by the club. Just sayin

Do they have that one-round-at-a-time rule? What are the fees like? I kinda like going out to the pass. Enumclaw was a bit of a long haul though, and anyway both of those shooting pits are closed and/or inaccessible in the winter. But I do like driving out into the woods and finding new pits. One thing I wanna try and do more of is getting out and away from civilization. Going to a paid shooting club is a very city slicker activity, whereas in the name of being prepared, I'd like to get out into the national forests around here and do some open shooting, small game hunting, camping, building my own fires and shelters out of what I find out there, etc. I think those skills are gonna be more and more important in the coming years and shooting is just about 8-10% of the whole survival picture.

I went there once but I've driven by it a million times and its not in the city, the annual fee is $75 with another 40 for filing the paper work, I'm not sure about one-round rule but I doubt there is one there is one on the simple fact that that the dude I went there with follows all the rules and he went crazy down there, its easy to get to I never tried in the winter but I'm assuming its easy cause there's no huge hills, if you don't wanna pay I understand but its an option in case anymore public places get shut down

Hey ya'll
Just to double check,
Is exit 47 on I90 is totally closed, or is still in process of closing?
Do they have "no shooting" signs up yet?
I've been searching for new places to shoot outdoor. Last place I went to was off of ex38 on I90, but that got shut down.

There are 2 shooting pits out there as far as I know. One is the pit on the north side of I-90, about 100 yards off the interstate, off in the woods. There are NO SHOOTING signs, but they're just spray-painted on rocks, nothing official. Then on the south side of I-90 there's the Pathfinder's pit, AKA the Hanson Creek pit, which was still open and very active last time I was out there .... which I believe was in September?? I can't remember exactly .... I'll have to check my last posts in this thread 'cause I posted them right after I went shooting there. Anyway, the USFS dude I spoke to said they're gonna close the Hanson Creek/Pathfinder's pit and convert it into a trail head but he didn't seem to have a solid timeline. Meanwhile there's a local pro-2nd Amendment group fighting to keep that from happening so we'll see if they actually end up doing it or not. As far as I know it's still open, but it's far enough up in the mountains that unless you have a pretty serious SUV with some pretty serious tire chains, I'd wait 'til about late March or early April before trying to reach it.

Try June or July.. See pic and report here from about 6 months ago:

It might not be buried yet this season, but I'm sure it's damn cold up there. You all realize that it's just another five miles up the road to the summit and snow ski resort area right?

Thanks apocolape. I might possibly check it out this weekend. Or next Wednesday. Will report back after I get there.
D.riley I got a 4x4, and do very well with light offroading. We'll find out what happens. Haha.

Went there on Saturday.
Definitely a lot of snow up there. Narrow road, and got in a few 'traffic jams' with people coming down as I was going up. It's a popular place for people to get their Christmas trees as well. I saw almost 10 cars coming down with trees.
I got a truck, with factory tires, good thread, 4x4. Did very well. Saw a couple people in trucks stuck as well. I tried to pull someone out, but didn't quite make it, and almost got stuck myself.
And as far as the shooting pit, I didn't actually get there. It was getting late, I didn't anticipate it taking me so long to get up there. Didn't want to drive down when it was dark and the melted snow was slowly turning into ice. It was a little after 3 that we decided to turn around.
I did ask the people that were coming down, and they said it was open, and there were people shooting there.
Seemed like it was a busy day to go there (that late since a lot of people were coming down already)
If any of you guys decide to go, definitely go early in the morning, or during a week day. I got a couple pictures that I'll post up.

Not so fast. Last word I heard, they are in the process of closing it. It's supposed to happen early in the year and from talking to the ranger who's in charge out there, I got the idea that they want it converted into a trail head by this summer. It is a pretty popular shooting pit .... maybe a little too popular IMO .... but we'll see whether they actually end up closing it or not. The 2nd Amendment Foundation is in the fight now, and they are not the least bit shy about filing lawsuits. But the plan, as of this posting, is that the pit is slated for closure.

Slated for closure is not the same as 'Verified Closed'. As it is probably under behind a mile or two of logging road with a foot of snow it is a bit of a moot point, but I'd still rather read that it is slated for closure rather than 'Verified Closed'. Just being optomistic...

I titled the thread that 'cause I wrote it right after getting off the phone with the bitch at the ranger station who told me, erroneously, that the place was closed. Not closing, closed. It turned out that on top of being a bitch she was also wrong.

I kinda did jump ze gun on that one though. Pardon ze pun. Change the thread title if ya want, I gives not a poop. I can't wait to get back up there and try out my rifle now that I got new mags for it and rubbed graphite powder on the feed ramp, which should hopefully eliminate the performance issues it was having.

Not gonna be any time soon though. We's fixin' to get seriously snowfucked (note date of post).

Having been up there...and stuck....twice...in much milder conditions, I'm hoping you are taking a monster truck or something. It just gets so deep that you high-center.

Didn't go up there again, but when I went in Dec, in my stock F150 I was perfectly fine (though I didn't make it all the way to the top since it was getting dark)
And I saw a subaru baja that was coming down from the top. What car did you take up there?

Does anyone have any news on this location?

At this point I would consider it shut down for the season. But just to back that up, I have a friend who went up there in the last week or two and got stuck in a big-ass 4x4 and had to get pulled out. I just figure that since people tend to get stuck up there all the way up to June.... good luck with that..

Now snow-mobiles on the other hand.. :D That's what you need up there.
