The only correction, I'm affraid, is a different gun (looking at 9's), cause he just does not like the slap of the .40... I think the odd stance was actually an attempt at reducing felt recoil

I could see that, I guess. .40 does have some damn violent jump!

Malfunction?... Or limp wrist???

Postby Winston Smith » Sat Dec 24, 2011 9:36 pm

Just took a pistol permit class, and they said they had sigma's and had all kinds of probs. I grew up one town over from Springfield, and I'd by an M & P, XD or a Glock first.

For what it's worth my XD sub-compact .40 does not like to be "limp-wristed" either and does the same thing. I took it to the range with some friends and had one of my buddies talking all kinds of mess because he couldn't get it to feed, I'd get on the line and it fed fine and locked back on the empty mag. I don't really understand it completely, but I don't think it's your gun.

No semi auto likes to be limp-wristed, even the gas-operated ones.

Update- No more similar issues, maybe 250 rounds since malf... Until the extractor died. It was tweeked on the bottom end (very thin/pointy) when I got it, and the tip finally broke off. After that, it would only eject when hand rackedit, so it was rack/fire rack/fire  But i bought 2 of the little buggers from s&w and installed one, 80 rounds later, no problems jhp & fmj, btw.

And, just found out it takes S&W SD mags :D (it's a sigma)

I have a thing against Sigmas. But I'm glad you got the issue all worked out.

A lot of people do... I think it's a combo of- 1. Awful stock trigger 2. Too high percentage of lemons 3. It already had a bad rep, so any issude feeds into that.

Before that series of malfs, I would have recomended the gun, but after reading up more & having that issue, that I can't say 100% was the shooter (99% though), I wouldn't recomend them (except maybe to a guy with lots of guns/experience, for a range toy)... But I like mine

Limp wrist will consistently cause ftf in a Glock. Probably the same result in the Sigma.

My midget wife prefers the .40. She's not legally a midget, but she doesn't break the mark by much.

Small update. Still no more malfs, maybe 500 rounds since limp-wrist jams.

Just shot an IDPA qualifier today, no malfs, shot very well for a newb, 2.66 points below expert. I'm very happy with high sharpshooter, since my main goal was safety and patience... I did well on the first part :D

You know....
Even a Sigma should not experience a FTF simply because it's being limp- wristed, but FTFs will definitely show up for somebody who's limp- wristing first.
I think the problem actually *is* the gun, but it's probably easily fixed.

You're going to have to strip down the slide and remove the extractor. Inspect the extractor and spring for damage (you probably won't see anything wrong). Thoroughly clean the extractor/ spring, and the channel in the slide as well as the spring pocket. When you reassemble it, don't use any lube in that area.

Afterwards, have your dad try it again. Odds are it won't stovepipe on him anymore.

*edit* whoops! I should read the entire thread before responding...
