New Zealand Earthquake, Re-dux

Postby Xale D » Thu Dec 22, 2011 8:51 pm

Christchurch just got hit with a 5.8 magnitude earthquake, according to CNN.

Didn't they just finish digging out from the August quakes?

They still haven't got back on track from the first ones over a year ago. :(

From what I can gather there isn't much of a panic going on down there at the moment, familiarity breeds contempt I guess.

From above link.
The first quake - magnitude 5.8 quake, 8km deep and centred 20km north east of Lyttelton - struck at 1.58pm, GeoNet said. It was followed by a magnitude 5.3 quake at 2.06pm, a magnitude 6 quake - the largest - at 3.18pm and a 5.0, just 10 km deep, at 4.50pm.

New Zealand Earthquake, Re-dux

Christchurch just isn't getting a break, two days before Christmas too. :(

I hope that's the last of the current ones.

Fingers crossed that's all for now.

Had a bit of a talk with some Christchurch lads at the Boxing Day BBQ I attended. Overall they reckon the people living in ChCh are remaining fairly positive, but they are of the opinion that there will a way to go before most can put it behind them.

Also, due to the massive amount of payouts by the Insurance companies, comphrehensive Home and Contents insurance is near on impossible to get in ChCh, available policies now tend to have a 'except in case of earthquake' clause written into them.
