AR15

Pros
Massive aftermarket support
cheap mags
cheap ammo
is a current issue rifle and will continue the above
massive parts availability
superior ergos

cons, compared to the PTR none

PTC
Pros
( to some) .308/7.62X51
(to some) it resembles something German?
magazines are LITERALLY cheaper than dirt.
?????? parts kits?

Cons
Its not a rifle supported by parts or accessories producers int he US

( i like the Cetme line and its G3/ptr interpretation but its just not supported here as widely as the FAL, AR10, M1A or AR 15)
No one has a sense for the dramatic.

PTR-91s are fucking HEAVY. I would NOT enjoy carrying one around and a combat load of ammo all day.

Yes, but I like the greater usefulness of the .308, and that the PTR/G3 has pretty good service life. Any old .308 ammo can take deer, or stop a charging flatbed truck. You can carry tons of 5.56, but just how much of a threat are poodles in your AO, really?

I don't own either, at the moment. I have a Sig 556, but that's really an AK(like my other rifles), and heavier than a G3. I'd like a PTR in the future, as a DMR most likely. I already have 20+ mags

i wont be standing in-front of any vehicle unless it been hit with 25mm bushmaster or larger.

308 will damage an engine, 50 cal will destroy an engine but it takes real heavy stuff to stop it then and their

I like .308 for what it is and what it can do. That being said my CETME is relegated to bug in or vehicles only, because I am not going to carry that heavy bitch. I will carry the AR and a shitload more ammo

For Christ's sake +15! We all graduated High School, correct? The PAW will more likely be brought on by the continual degradation of intelligent human life, as evidenced in our grammar and spelling, than by zombies. Of course, stupid people appear to simply be zombies, but the mechanism of injury is wholly different, and preventable.

Agreed! I'd never advocate standing in the line-of-travel of a flatbed. Movement. Fire and MOVEMENT! Get your ass out of the way!

Gents,

I am unaware of the OP's location or origin and ZS is an international organization. English isn't a primary language worldwide, heck it isn't even a primary language in parts of Houston. It could have all been in caps....

Buy both. Each has its pros and cons and they are complimentary.

Indeed, AR/AK = assault rifle, G3/PTR = DMR

The Russians were well ahead of what we're still trying to implement now when they put DM's at the squad level with SVD's. This is a very effective combination.

If I have to haul it around on foot.... the AR (besides I can upgrade to any of a number of different calibers) For bugging in or in convoy, I'll take the thump and reach of my HK-91.

AR15
Pros
Lighter weight
More ammo can be carried at lower weight
600 yard + potential
Accuracy is phenominal
Very common, custom parts are everywhere for anything you can imagine
Mag pouches and other accessories are made in 1000 different styles
Barrels and configurations galore. Want a particular style gun? Part exist to build it.
2 pins and you have a different caliber or configuration.
Ammo is cheaper
Mags can be had in 5,10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 60, 100 capacities
Full auto is easy to handle

Negatives
Lighter bullet weights (you can get a 6.8 if you want more knockdown)
Recoil is easy going
Less punch through capability than a 308
Mags ($8-25) are more expensive than G3 mags ($3)

PTR91
Pros
Reliable action
Fluted chamber for good reliability
Battle rifle accuracy, may be slightly above average for battle rifles.
Cheapest mags of all battle rifles around
800 yard + potential.
Massive trauma to anything hit. It stops shit dead.
Enough accessories to satisfy most people
Roller delay blowback has never failed me.

Negatives
HEAVY GUN
Action has a strange recoil feel (I have an H&K91), which can be punishing
Fluted chamber eats brass
Accuracy is not inherently good. Mostly a 2moa gun.
Cannot be converted to other calibers easily.
Field repairs are specialized and most require armorers tools.
Roller delay blowback action sucks to shoot.
Ammo is more expensive
Can't carry as much ammo as a 223.
Mags limited to 20 rounds.
Clearing a FTF/FTE is more time consuming and difficult than an AR15. That lever can get locked down and can be difficult to manipulate under stress.
Full auto? God help you in controlling it!
Bill Paxton... the only person to be killed by the Alien, the Terminator, and the Predator.
