Make - If we meet, you'll find out.
Model - Male
Year - 1984
Location - From the DC metro region for a decade, now recently moved to the eastern panhandle of WV.

Characteristics
I work as a cardiac nurse. I'm caring and compassionate most of the time, but become an asshole if I need something done and people don't listen. I've mostly lived in suburbia, but now I'm trying to become more self sufficient on my own land. Sometimes if I lose my filter in a conversation, inappropriate jokes fall out of my mouth. But they're funny.

Strengths
First Aid - Before I was a nurse, I worked on an ambulance for about 5 years.
Math - Don't really use it that much any more though. :(
Food - I can usually make a meal out of anything
Trivia - I know lots of useless information about stuff no one cares about.

My name is Don. I've lived in central VA since I was born here in '71.
I found this site while looking up info on preparedness. Events like Katrina and the Haiti earthquake have made me realize that I need to be ready in case something happens. I have decided to learn how to fish and hunt and grow my own stuff. Basically I want to be as self sufficient as I can. And I like zombie movies.

I'm moving to Blacksburg in a few weeks.

Chris
Male
1979
Former Air Force officer. But I was a researcher, so the Air Force didn't really provide me with any zombie-relevant skills.
I'm currently a professor at West Point, but in a few weeks I'll be switching to Virginia Tech.
None of my education is directly zombie-relevant. But I'd like to think I'm still useful.
I do have many years of martial arts training. Primarily Muay Thai, Kali, and Wing Chun. I was an assistant instructor for much of that, and I'm willing to share.

Kevin, male, 30, engaged. One of the rare Tidewater locals. I'm a carpenter by trade and a decent automotive mechanic. VCDL member. I like trail riding with both my Jeep Cherokee and Polaris Scrambler.

When I was growing up, Suffolk was still in the country. Cabinets were kept stocked and oil lamps kept at the ready just as a way of life. We were without power and water for 19 after Hurricane Isabel in 03. The family is a little more spread out now but we've all worked to make sure that we're better prepared for similar issues since then.

Make: Bernie
Model: Male
Year: 1956
Characteristics:
  • People often call me a smartass, as if that were a bad thing.
  • Knowledgeable Old Fart with a sense of humor
  • I value function over form any day of the week -If it's stupid but it works, then it's not stupid.
Talents:
  • Highly Computer Skilled - Been working with 'em for over 30 years, professionally and as a hobby.
  • Basic Gardening - Parents were "farm folk" but even plastic plants tremble in fear of me.
  • First Aid - Former EMT (14 years)
  • Cooking - I'm a pretty decent cook and very, very rarely poison anyone
  • Useless Trivia - Likes pie and still has an 8 track somewhere
  • Military Training - Navy Gunner's Mate with EOD training - at one time I had an Expert rating with just about all military small arms, but that was 30 years ago
  • Communications - Extra class amateur radio operator
  • Education - I know a little about a lot of things and a lot about some other things. Degrees in computer & information sciences, and electrical engineering
  • Construction - Family business was general contracting - you name it, I can probably build it
  • Sewing - My first wife was a seamstress, and I actually know how to sew and make clothes from scratch
  • Other Misc Skills - Good with animals (they like me for some reason), good with mechanical things, especially vehicles (was a NYS motor vehicle inspector and ASE certified mechanic at one point), I have about 100 hours fixed wing and about 70 hours rotary wing experience, but that was 40 years ago, have not flown since.

Medically retired after 45+ years in construction after blowing out my knee on a job for a friend. Still not 100% and probably never will be, so I walk with a limp and have trouble with stairs or hills.
NOTE: Due to the rising cost of ammunition, warning shots will no longer be given.

There's always a certain percentage of any population with the conviction that society is a conspiracy to deny them their rights.
The right to be totally ignorant of any useful knowledge seems to be the basic one.
