Didn't want to steal ODA's thunder in his excellent Altoids tin thread, so I'll start one here.
After giving the altoids routine a spin, I ran into a couple of issues for myself...I didn't like the whole plastic bag thing over the tin to keep things dry, and I couldn't fit certain items in there...so, I busted out the 1010. It will fit in the regualr pockets of BDU's or the side pocket, is water-proof, won't just "pop" open on ya, etc., etc..
So, here's my current set-up for my "If I had to ditch the rest of my gear, this would be the one thing I would keep".
A few notes:
~I added a small spice packet for morale purposes (big thing in a survival situation, hence the gum as well), and the salt can double as a "medicine" for dehydration.
~The fishing hooks are wrapped up in the balck duct-tape (thanks again ODA)
~The white "pill" is actually a compressed wash cloth, which, like a bandana, has thousands of uses.
~The MRE matches are there for redundancy (can't have to many fire tools), and for the striker area for my NATO matches wrapped in the snare wire
And here it is packaged up. The space blanket makes for a nice cushion and prevents rattling, etc. I will, in the next few days, give it some paint so the bright, shiny silver isn't exposed.
Finally able to get my space blanket and pro-knot card in there. What better way to pass the time than perfecting your knots??? Thanks ODA for the idea on adding the nails/eyelets...will make setting up a shelter, etc. much easier. Some of the stuuf in there are merely niceties, and will be replaced if deemed necessary (i.e. I find somethnig more-useful)
Am I missing anything??? I plan on putting my mini Byrd knife in there, and I took the stock cord off to replace with 550 cord, maybe double/tripled looped...I've thoguht about adding some water purification tablets, but between the fire (purify) and the wash cloth (filter), I think I can make do with most water accquisition scenarios...

Also, how are you using your Peli's for stowing your bug-out gear??? Pics encouraged! I'll try to get some more pics of my other peli's, although they are mostly for my lights...
