A couple of Ft Knox, ME:

Despite the Ghost Hunters episode featuring this, there are no reports of anyone ever dying here. The fort, in central ME, was built to guard the waterways-but was never garrisoned. It had troops temporarily staying there, before it was complete, during the Civil War. However, the war ended, and they went home-without ever actually staying here. It was later completed to what it is today. The troops camped on the parade field inside the fort, and the woods adjacent to it. They had a parade on the parade field at the end of the war-thats the only time this fort was ever actually occupied. Now, its listed as a national historic site.

I suppose the car could stand to be dirtier, given the nature of the thread, but this abandoned gas station was pretty cool.
It was recently used in the upcoming movie about Hank Williams' last ride.
Wouldn't it be great if all wars could be fought just by the assholes who started them?

I like the pics of the urban decay and everything (they're cool), but I always pictured the PAW as a little more destructive.

At any rate I went on this fire a couple months ago where the fire burned one (occupied) house and a bunch of tract homes (unoccupied) and several trailers and cars and it brought this thread to mind. After the fire was finally out I went through all the pics (everyone on it snapped at least a couple pics on their cell-phones) and these were the ones without anyone in them.

I wish that I had snapped a couple of pics of the burned up Studebaker (to the left of the burning truck 4th picture down), the other old cars that were there and all the other sheds and trailers at the end of the street, but I didn't have time.

The fire was one of the larger ones I've seen and walking around with all the smoke and seeing stuff that was on fire that no one could put out simply because the nearest hydrant was a mile and a half away was kind of weird. Just basically had to contain it and let it burn.

I took those with my phones camera so they're not great, but I'm going back soon with my SLR to retake them.

I took this a couple years ago. The fellow's throttle cable parted, and he didn't realize he was at higher than idle rpms when he tried to stop the airplane on the runway.
Or... his passenger turned zombie in mid-flight..

Kind of a modern "Hooverville" feel to these.

Skip through the swedish stuff and you got pictures of the old forensic hospital from 1912. It was actually in use to 1988 when they switched to the maximum security building I work in. So this is what happens in 25 years roughly...
