That is almost always combined with the background music being so loud that it's no longer in the background. Music should add to the drama but not be so loud that I'm unable to hear the actors speaking their lines. I've noticed that in several shows recently and so have other members of the family. We've begun watching shows with the Closed Captions on so that we can lessen the chance of missing what's being said. It's not just TV shows but some movies. This past week we watched the movie Priest and ended up pausing the disk and turning on the subtitles for it. So many TV shows and movies have become overpowered by the music and background effects (explosions, gunshots, tires screaching) that they are almost unwatchable. It ruins the experiance for us.
I agree.
I can look back with great pleasure to watching some black and white films from the 30's and 40s......no background music at all for the most part. A few would have a short burst of music at a dramatic climax, but at a still far lower volume than the dialogue. Slim chance of seeing that again....
