FERFAL's Recommended Preps

Postby FelixArchon » Mon Oct 03, 2011 1:11 pm

After watching news about protests in American financial districts over the weekend, I was reminded of the scene in Argentina immediately prior to the runs on the banks and the start of their economic downward spiral. Anyone really interested in the topic has probably already watched FERFAL's vids on youtube and/or read his blog(s).

In any rate, if you don't have them ready already, seems like now would be a good time to get your gear up to FERFAL's recommended standards, even if all you do is double-check that your knife is sharp, your water bottle is full, and you have some cash on-hand.

This has been posted many times before but it is worthy of a repeat.

I do not think the "Wall Street Protests" are particularly troubling but any excuse to check your prep supplies is a good one.

FERFAL has some very good advice. I do not think all of is applicable in the US but it is good advice anyway and worth the time to read and think about his suggestions, whether you agree with them or not.

Read it and decide for yourself.

BTW his blog has this comment with which I do agree 100%. It is about merchants of fear. You need to keep this in mind when you do your risk analysis and preparations.

I used to read FerFal quite a bit, but it's really obvious he's in the game of keeping people afraid now and profiting from it. Nothing exactly wrong with that, but his advice isn't always that great depending on the subject matter, or he just rehashes the same thing again and again. IMHO of course..

Merchants of Fear. Something to be aware of for all of us. How many people had a room full of crap they will never use on Jan 2, 2000? Or extra rifles they bought as "investments" in 2008? Investing, parenting, preparing, marriage; take the long view.

You clearly dont read what I write, at least not often. Either that or you dont understand what I write. I'm not in the game of keeping people affraid.
Youre right about repeating myself sometimes. I constantly repeat that the basics are few, that there's peoeple out there looking to sell you crap you dont need, and that instead of wasting money in junk thinking you'll "barter" with it later, to put that money into PM instead. I repeat that kind of adivce a lot becuase people need to hear it. I review stuff that I like, then people may buy it or not. Very few items will I call "must haves".

Yes, I'm lucky enough to make a living with what I love doing, preparing, shooting, training and writing about survival and disaster preparedness, but those that know me know I've posted and wrote about survival and preparedness for eight years before I even knew you could make a living blogging and writing. I profit from what I do becuase enough people consider it valuable and important, not becuase I trick anyone into being affraid. I'm just back from Salt Lake City's SelfReliance Expo where I was invited to be the keynote speaker. Nope, no one was running scared and the atmosphere was very positive. Whenever someone appraoched me with doom and gloom attitude I explained that life just goes on, a bit more complicated, certainly more dangerous, but its not the end of the world.

I've been reading FerFAL's stuff for many years now, and on many sites from the FALfiles to his own.

Personally, I'm grateful for all that he has written, and I think that it has done more to inspire hope than anything else. He has proven that there is life after a huge disaster like an economic collapse, and that some sensible preps beforehand can help greatly.

FerFAL - if you ever visit the Sarasota FL area, I'm happy to buy you a beer of thanks for all that you have done and continue to do.

BigDaddyTX, I've been following FerFAL from about the beginning of his experiences and in the early days he was as much student as teacher. I had seen him resist trying to turn a profit for years before he finally relented. I remember telling him (on another forum) that he was selling himself short by not doing so and that by writing a book he would actually increase the number of people he would reach and help more people. Helping others was his motivation for years and for the longest time he refused to even think about making a buck on his experiences. I hope now he sees how much more he can do to teach others by traveling and reaching more people.

Fernando, I couldn't make it to your Texas trip/gathering. I hope you are finishing the expanded version of your book. I got 'mine'.

FerFal, wow haven't seen your name on a board since you left Frugals. I enjoyed what you wrote there and thank you for the insight of what you went through down in Argentina.
