Which ties / clips do you use to secure your MOLLE pouches a

Postby uneekwahn » Fri Sep 30, 2011 3:28 am

Having recently got a new bag which is basically a panel of webbing (http://mollymacpack.com) and some MOLLE pouches to attach to it, I'm still yet to buy ties / clips to attach them with.

What do you use and why and what do you suggest I avoid and why?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Jason.

I use MALICE clips wherever I can. Right now I am using 3 of them every day to mount pouches on my duty belt. I have tried the stupid little fabric ties from Maxpedition and found them to be crap.

Anything other than MALICE clips or strong zip ties is a compromise in my opinion. Get the former when (as soon as) you can, and use the latter (which you probably already have) until then.

Never thought of using zip ties, can you get them tight enough so the pouches etc. don't flap around?

Yes. But, Malice clips are still the best.

I think it's Sigboy who uses zipties to permanently attach his MOLLE gear along with malice clips. I've thought about doing this, but the only pouches that I wouldn't move are 5.11 with the slick stick system, and I have no fear of it unintentionally coming off. I think malice clips are the way to go for anything you need that sort of solution for.

You all are making me feel old, I just use the old style alice clips with zip ties holding them shut, never had a problem with them though.

Aw, really? What have you heard about them? I was tempted to buy some for certain applications (wanting to have a MOLLE-to-MOLLE connection that I could rapidly mount/dismount).

I don't remember specifics other than they came apart easy and the person who told me so was someone I trusted. Might have been Dave but I am not sure.

Hazard 4 labs has some interesting looking new MOLLE joiners here (http://www.hazard4.com/products_mpal.html).

Condor Tactical has what looks like some fabric/snap version of the MALICE clips. I have never played with one, so i have no idea about how well it works.

I use (and have only used) the maxpedition ones. Never had any problems with them... not sure what the problem was from poster above. They stay on, seem durable to me. /shrug

ah, never tried that. I can see the maxped ones sucking for that purpose. Do malice clips etc retain well on a belt?

Important to view these two posts together as attaching things to belts is not the intended purpose of tacties.

I've used countless malice clips and tac-ties and they both work excellent at attaching things to molle webbing.

Well the MALICE clips certainly made for better belt loops than the Maxped loopy things. And having handled both I decided to use the MALICE clips for actual MOLLE attachment over the Maxped loopys.

Is the length of a Malice clip based on it fully open or when closed over?

Cheers,

For what it's worth. I have these Blackhawk speed clips and I HATE them...

When secured, they often dislodge from whatever they are attaching to when pulling out a magazine or any normal amount of tension is pulling against them. I bought a bunch from LA Police Gear when I saw them and regret it.

The ONLY way I have moderate strength with them is when I have one facing away from the vest and one facing towards the vest. Then, at least one of the things are still hanging there when the other pulls off.

I wouldn't trust those. You really need to be able to weave the straps in and out between the molle panel and the attaching object more than just once ( the more times you weave it the better)to get the object secure. That's just begging for trouble. Malice clips work great, they're a pita to weave in an out but they never come undone.
