Some avatars not showing

Dunno if anyone else has run into this problem, but recently several user avatars have stopped showing, and instead displays in text "user avatar".

I have no problem seeing images in posts.

A lot of the missing are from members I recognize who I'd guess haven't changed. I thought maybe it was new avatars only, but I can still see ZG's new Halloween avatars everyday, so it isn't that.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit and the latest version of Firefox (which just updated yesterday, I think, with the problem being well before then)

I re-uploaded mine and it fixed the problem. I just figured the MySQL table holding the BLOBs got hosed.

I have the same issue with Chrome and FireFox.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried re-uploading my avatar. No effect. I was always able to see mine, it's some others like Finch and Yossarian and several new members that I can't see.

I went into firefox and cleared my cache only. No effect. (tools>options>privacy>clear history>all time range>details>cache selected only)

Where's the .sqlite file located, and should I just delete it?

Finch's (I cannot see it)

The difference between them is .jpg and .jpeg, so:

Finches (slightly altered .jpeg)
download/file.php?avatar=31004_1254955295.jpeg

Apparently at some point the hosting server decided to shortchange the file name extension an "e" (since they are the exact same format).

I'm gonna PM whisk.e and jnathan to see if they can fix it.

Hi everyone,

The Avatars not appearing is a problem we're aware of and it's something we're working on fixing.

By all means feel free to re-upload your avatar and fix it yourself, but that's a lot to ask for all the affected users to do.

We hope to fix it in a way that requires no user intervention.

This post was very helpful. I get a big F for not reading all the posts carefully (in my defense, I'm using a smartphone). Hopefully this is a trvivial fix.

I seem to remember you with a different one, but this is what shows under IE (oddly enough, not under FireFox). The .jpeg trick I used for Finch doesn't work on yours, and I keep getting a 403 forbidden or a 404 if I try other formats like bmp, gif, tiff, etc. I'm sure it's in there, it's just not being called correctly.

Maybe all the images' extensions where set to jpg, and so those of us with that format were ok, while it tried to force all other avatars to that, returning the broken images.
