Failed state or not, Mexico is producing some truly bad-ass road-warrior/BOV vehicles.

Yeah, 'cept only the bad guys have them. I'd pick a Bradley over a suped-up Ford anyday :)

I suspect the bad guys would also prefer a Bradley (or even an Abrams) if they could get their hands on them.

As far as I can read, former police chief Marisol Valles Garcia is alive and well with her kid and husband.

At the bottom of the article is a Yahoo email and phone number for people to either offer assistance or ask for it. Interesting.

Anyway, there was a photo where someone actually just took a Ford F-350 and covered it in steel. It looks much less cool than the ZS fleet, and here it is:

Always wanted to visit Mexico, and just hang out for a while on a beach somewhere watching the sun rise and set, check my cares at the border for a couple of weeks and live on ceviche, fajitas, and cervezas. Hoping I can get my finances in order and hit the beach before I'm a wrinkly old bastard who needs to carry more arthritis cream and hearing aid batteries than suntan lotion and bling. Does anyone have an opinion on the general feeling about the tourism forecast in Mexico or Central America in general? I know Mexico is losing tourism dollars fast, which is not helping the economy on top of all the other hits it's taking.

And I've been following this thread for quite a while, just have never posted to it because I end up editing myself into oblivion being careful with the no politics rule. Let's just say I am disappointed with a lot of the way things are on both sides of the fence and just want safety and security and happiness for everyone. Some of you are able to say it a lot more diplomatically and effectively than me so I yield the floor to you.

It's more likely that those bodies were from hapless victims that very well had nothing to with anything they did online.
The intent was to send a message, which makes me infinitely more sad for the victims.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if neither of the victims even had access to a computer.

If Mexico and other S.A. countries would lift their draconian ban on civilian firearm ownership, the thugs that did things like this would find it harder to victimize a hostage population, and it would be narco thugs swinging from the overpasses with signs hanging off them.

I find the entire situation down south very, very sad.

Edit: I feel :( :( :( with tears for the victims' and their families.

There's some talk in the comment section that the crime scene ain't quite kosher. The notes on the bodies were written weird or altered in some way. I guess another news outlet looked into it.

Not sure if it was posted before:

http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2011/09/r ... -mata.html

http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2011/09/a ... al-mx.html

Apparently they are called the CJNG, Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion. While they say that they are part of the Sinaloa cartel, these guys seem to be only targeting the Zetas and no civilians.

****WARNING: Graphic images****

http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2011/09/d ... lenge.html

I am not sure what to think of these new guys. Since they are part of cartels and they are just trying to get rid of another cartel.....kinda like getting rid of a disease to bring another one....

Also, Mexican Marines capturing 19 Zetas:

BBC America wrote:Mexico disbands Veracruz-Boca del Rio police force

An entire municipal police force in Mexico has been disbanded as part of a campaign to root out corruption and improve security in the face of drug-related violence.

More than 900 officers in Veracruz-Boca del Rio are losing their jobs.

The Mexican navy is taking over responsibility for law enforcement.

The move comes three months after 35 bodies were found dumped on a main road in the municipality, which includes part of the city of Veracruz.

Navy troops backed by federal police officers took control of local police buildings and were patrolling the streets.

I haven't updated this in a while as to be honest, it gets depressing to monitor. While Sharkie and L1z4rd are on the front line, I'm a couple hundred miles north, so the fall out and spread of this into the US are my main concern.

Here's an example:
http://www.krgv.com/news/expert-says-be ... f-cartels/

Three beheadings in two different states and they happened here in the United States, not Mexico.

Former DEA supervisor Phil Jordan says all three beheadings have cartel written all over them. They happened in Arizona and Oklahoma in the past year.

A murder mystery is now unraveling on a stretch of North Reservation Road in Tucson, Ariz. County workers found a headless man lying on the side of the road Jan. 6. The man's hands and feet were reportedly missing, too.

"It would lead me to believe the message wanted to be sent. This is one of the ways they do it in Mexico, Colombia and other places," says Jordan.

Jordan says the cartels are getting bolder in carrying out their beheadings across the border. He says we only used to see these crimes in Mexico.

"They don't have any borders," says Jordan.

I you live in a border state, the on going violence isn't news enough to merit bumping the thread daily. Only exceptionally large scale or vile acts make the main news anymore

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/ ... 8420120513
(Reuters) - Suspected drug gang killers dumped 49 headless bodies on a highway near Mexico's northern city of Monterrey in one of the country's worst atrocities in recent years.

The mutilated corpses of 43 men and 6 women, whose hands and feet had also been cut off, were found in a pile on a highway in the municipality of Cadereyta Jimenez in the early hours of Sunday, officials from the state of Nuevo Leon said.

"What's complicating the identification of all the people was that they were all headless," said Jorge Domene, the Nuevo Leon government's spokesman for public security, who said the other body parts were missing.

Domene said the brutal Zetas drug gang claimed responsibility for the murders in a message found at the scene.
