Jamie's new knife CRKT M16-14ZER

Postby Jamie » Mon Sep 12, 2011 4:16 pm

I just got this knife, and am impressed by the feel and function of it...

CRKT M16-14ZER

It's the M16 design with a large combo blade of AUS-8 steel, seatbelt-cutter, and tungsten carbide window-breaker...

Image

I've got big hands, and this knife fits me very well...when the blade is open, the seatbelt cutter functions as a guard against wet finger slipping up onto the blade, and when closed the cutter slices easily through tough nylon webbing...

Image

I got this new version of the M16 for $56, and am excited to try it out on an upcoming trip, and also as my EDC briefcase knife...

Looks nice. Seems like something that would be good to carry everyday, and on every car trip. I like the orange grip scales... not something you want to drop and not be able to find.

I like CRKT items in general and have had real good luck with all of them. The knife looks real handy and practical and now I will have to look for one.

Where did you get it from? I'm looking to buy one and stumbled over your pictures while looking for a site that advertised it as the aus8 version and not aus4. CRKT's site states aus8 amazon and many other sites list aus4. I know CRKT has a habit of doing multiple versions with both steel types and I'm trying to make sure I get the aus8.

Darn Jamie, a tanto blade style? I'ld say you went tacticool but don't feel like busting anyones chops this morning and that knife is pretty darn cool in reality. I like the orange scales, but I like the bright colors on blade handles as I spend a lot of time in the woods when I can and like the increased visibility they offer. I haven't ever owned a CRKT but have heard very good things about them and am sure you'll get a long time of use out of it.
Cheers

I have never lamented the inevitable tactical coloring of most useful items more than when I have dropped such an item in leaf litter or under a stand of pine trees.

I agree. I have several "hunter's orange" handled knives for the same reason. I also knew a fellow who lost his wallet while out in the woods deer hunting and never found it.

It was woodland camo print.

I love my CRKT, here it is when I broke it down and cleaned it:

Does that seatbelt cutter ever get caught on things (on your pants maybe while your putting it in your pocket) and cut things you don't want it to cut?
