Looks wicked good.

Also, it's a prequel, not a reboot.

That looks awesome, can't wait to see it in the theater.

I've been looking forward to this. I would have had a hard time giving a remake a chance, as i think The Thing is one of the truly great horror films of my lifetime (itself, a remake of course) but the moment I heard the deal, I went "Fuck yeah! I always did want to know more of the Norwegians' story!" I'm almost never open minded about this sort of thing these days as I think that when it comes to horror, Hollywood has been excreting poo from it's every pore for some time now, but count me in.

I am more psyched than ever now. We just watched The Thing 1982 tonight and it had been several years since I last saw it and I was riveted to my chair the whole way. If this prequel is even a fraction of what the first movie was, it will be good. If it really captures the feel of the first, and tells the story in the spirit of the first, and uses the characters as well as the first did, then it will be extremely good. If it fails, I won't begrudge them because this is a hell of a story to bring back from the ashes, so to speak.

Also:

QFT. And they do not make movies like this anymore. They just don't. Characters are lacking depth, all characters just seem like caricatures rather than people. And too much weight would be given to making them very young and very attractive, rather than just hiring the best actor. The script would be full of cocky, useless dialogue. It would all be CGI. There would also be some stupid soundtrack to buy, and probably a tie-in with a pizza promotion or something (lol... a pizza promotion for The Thing... I make myself laugh). They don't make them like they used to, that is the truth. This prequel looks so old school that half my excitement is getting to see a movie where people are actually just acting and reacting, rather than chewing the scenery for 90 minutes....

Oops, tangent rant.

What I loved about the thing was the people were convincingly scared. And the way the suspicion between the characters developed. Very nice.

I may actually go to the theater to see that one.

That looks so good!

I will definitely go to see that film.

I have seen & liked the 1980's version with Kurt Russell but not the original. I'll make a point of watching that now.

I dunno.. doesn't look to me like they've changed that much from the John Carpenter version, so what's the point? Updated SFX? That's not good enough a reason, IMO.
I don't understand some of these modern remakes.Often the original is better (like Halloween).

I saw the trailer the other day and instantly became excited. I told my wife like two days ago and she told me she has never seen the 1982 one. Amazon cant ship that DVD fast enough. I was also a fan of the dark horse comics in the early 90's.

I had the pleasure of showing it to my wife for the first time too. She watched the whole thing through her fingers, pretty much, and said she never wanted to see it a second time, but that it was a great movie

I have plenty of faith in Hollywood . . . faith that they'll screw it up. Hard. What I get from the preview is more thriller than horror. The CG screeching, the jump moments, etc. There will be action. There will be violence. There will be screaming and gore. Will there be horror? I'm not so sure. Given that they point out from the producers of Dawn of the Dead, I'm expecting a fast-thing/slow-thing debate to break out after everyone sees it. Slow-thing is more about the horror and fast-thing is all about "holy shit!", or something like that.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but that's just how I see it. It's very hard for me to get excited about movies anymore. Theater? Maybe. My brother may get all psyched up and drag me out. It actually helps that I have low expectations. Leaves the door open for movies to be surprisingly good.

The trailer did make me wonder . . . They're making this woman out as the main protagonist, but we all know where this is going. We're expecting a couple guys in a helicopter chasing a dog when it all wraps up, right?

Yeah, the "sequel" (what the hell do we call the first movie now? to name the prequel the same thing as the sequel, not a brilliant idea, even if I do love the reason for the prequel) is very carefully plotted and paced. You are very tense by the time shit starts hitting the fan. There is not enough jumping and yelling at the TV that I can do when the infamous "couch" scene comes and MacRready can't get his flamethrower to work.

It's hard for me, too. So much slop is put on our plates any more. I saw someone joking on another site about the current state of the "World War Z" movie. He joked that it didn't matter anyway because in 2 years Hollywood would just reboot it with Shia Lebeouf.

The trailer did make me wonder . . . They're making this woman out as the main protagonist, but we all know where this is going. We're expecting a couple guys in a helicopter chasing a dog when it all wraps up, right?

She is definitely not long for this world. Or, something else will happen and she will escape. They either can't find her/don't know she escaped (unlikely)/or thought they killed her and she survived (also don't find this likely). Perhaps she will survive and we will get another movie out of it, after Kurt Russell's movie. I just can't see the producers laying this down after reigniting interest in one of the best horror movies ever (re)made.

I had always wanted to see what happened to the norwegian camp, it looked absolutely terrifying. I just hope they try to make it like the original without directly copying scenes from the original. If they have norwegians tied up while they do the blood test then I am out.

OT: anyone ever play the video game for the PS2.....that shit right there was the scariest game I have ever played (right up there with system shock 2)

For the record , I am not happy about this . :x

The 82 version is one of my favorite films of all time .

The practical effects are amazing , seeing that done with digital does not fill me with hope .

And for fucks sake , they replaced Baddass Alcoholic Helicopter Pilot with Sexy Lady Scientist . Lame .
