How much pressure to break skull

Postby Decap BD » Thu Jul 21, 2011 11:12 pm

How hard would you have to swing a blunt object on a zombies head to crack open the skull?

Depends how heavy the object is, and cracking a skull isn't the same as killing the ( undead ) human. As posted, not hard.

Wouldn't it also depend on what part of the cranium you hit? Temples should be easier.
I also wonder -given Romero type zeds- as they decompose, they should dehydrate, the marrow drying up inside the bones, flesh drying and rotting, etc.. I would think that'd make it easier to smash up a zombie than a living human.

the de-hydration would make for a much more brittle snap however i think the threshold for fracture might be higher. i like to think of a noodle, when dehydrated it takes more force to bend than a hydrated noodle however a hydrated noodle won't snap.

you dont have to break open the head ive just a pound can cause brain damage (the zombie might become paralized, retarded or even die ~)

There wasn't much to do. All the bowling alleys had been wrecked. So's I spent most of my time looking for beer. " - Bob

Mythbusters compared the skull cracking abillity of a full bottle of beer versus an empty one. A full bottle is a depressed skull fracture about every time while an empty one is usually not lethal. I forgot the PSI needed for the fracture.

Looks like someone above says 15. Maybe that's from Deadliest Warrior?

But zombies are already dead, not the brightest bulbs, and somewhat paralyzed.

A full bottle of beer is more effective on an old, dry, brittle zombie. Just make sure you have a "designated hitter" if there are seven empties in front of you, and a fresh fast zombie comes in. A hitter is a good idea even if there aren't any zombies for miles; an ass who is looking for trouble can appear very similar to a fresh zombie.
