IMO, stockpiling/reloading are the only viable option for ALL calibers. Expecting to find any ammo/parts post SHTF for any caliber is far too unreliable/dangerous to factor in a PAW game plan.
Said a wise, wise man...

The best things that the most common and popular calibers have going for them is the higher affordability they can be found at and stockpiled before a disaster, not their potential loot factor (discussion of which is very frowned upon).

The last thing I want to be doing in a disaster is to have to leave whatever relative safety I may have to go scrounging for anything, including ammo.

Hello
I think that a three gun combo is apropriote here. I would choose a Rock River Lar 15 in 5.56, a Springfield XD 4" service model in .45 for the side arm and
H&R .22 revolver, not for zombies but for game. :)

I have my Sig p228 and Sig 556 for Bugout... I also have a Benelli M4, but that's for my room-mate, and he has a Sig 229 (9mm).

These are our go-to guns in crisis mode

Ideally, everything. Our family plan would be to take two cars and as much of the home-based stuff as possible, prioritizing guns and food- there would be plenty of room. If there were only time to grab one load and we were still able to drive out, then I would choose my Mini-14 and my S&W 908. If we had to hoof it, then I'd take my AR-7 and S&W 908. I'd pick the SP101 for a handgun, but that's already at the evac rendezvous.

My M4 and my S&W model 10 38 special. I realize the 38 isn't the greatest man stopper but it's lightweight, reliable, and accurate. Besides, if I ever have to use the pistol, that just means I'm out of rifle ammo and then I'm screwed anyway. :D

.38 special may not be the best, but it's far from the worst, and the model 10 adds a touch of class to any apocalypse. :D

Here's a pic of the tools I'm gonna grab if I gotta make a hasty bugout. My AR because it's highly accurate at distance and versatile, competent in both hunting and man stopping. The 38 wheelgun because it's lightweight, accurate, and relatively trouble-free. The Buck knife because I never go into the outdoors without it, regardless.

The GSD because I'll need to sleep well at night where ever I end up. :D

I realized I needed to update my selection.

Instead of the Witness, I'd take the Glock
Image
(Unless my wife takes it, then I get to carry the Witness. )

Depending on the situation, and other circumstances that I can't think of off-hand, I'd probably still take the AR
Image

But I might take the WASR instead.

I guess it would depend on when and why I am bugging out, and my mood at any given moment. :P

12 gauge 870 and a Sig P-226. Decent ammo availability and with both, most defensive situations can be handled. If the trouble is at rifle range, I figure I have time to disappear before they arrive. Of course life being what it is, you'll have a dire need for a .22 and all you have is a shotgun...

I would prefer the gp100 but I dont have a holster so I would go with the 1911 because I have a holster and a carrier for the magazines. For the long gun I am going to favor the cetme over the fal, and the ar15. The cetme is more acurate than the fal and more reliable than the ar15. It shoots common ammo in the 308.

I would go with any one of the possible combos you could make with these 4 weapons.

Nice. :) I'd take the commie blasters, and put the original brake on the AK so I can do the shooty-stabby thing.

Dont know whether to go with a larger caliber, meaner Saiga AK, or go with a more "hunters" rifle in 22lr like a Marlin Papoose. I like both for concealability.

But right now its just me and my handgun- Taurus Pt145 Mill pro

I like my AR-57 and FN Five-Seven plenty of ammo and not many mags... I have like 3 20 rounders left and like 5 50 Round mags for the 57... It's awesome. otherwise I would just take my FsN pistol and my Stag AR...

I had earlier answered this post , but my choices have changed a bit .
Glock 22 , 2 standard mags and 2 30 round mags
Saiga 12 with 3 20 rnd drum mags .
.40 and 12g are EZ to find .
My Saiga is capable of opening skulls at 200 yards using rifled slugs . And being that I see the ZPAW primarily being a urban survival scenario , that range is all that's needed .

All I have right now is Sig Sauer 226 in .40 Cal variety.

I'm looking to add a .22 handgun (at X-Mas) and a decent all around compact rifle KelTec Sub 2000 in.40 cal? or one of the 5.56 mm rifles..

XD45 Service and SOCOM 16 for me

Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical and Ruger Mark III 22/45 for the wife.

I might switch to my Beretta 92FS if I get a Storm CX4, the pros are I can share mags and ammo, the cons is far less firepower than the XD45/SOCOM 16 combo.

Now if I had to keep my firearms hidden I would take my AR pistol in place of a long gun, same ability to put lots of 5.56 rounds downrange but would fit under a jacket or vest.

If we really have to bug out I will have my Beretta 92fs with twenty round magazine making it 20+1 capacity and my Ruger Mini-30 with twenty round factory magazine. I have four extra twenty round magazines for my Ruger and two 17 round mags and two ten round magazines for my Beretta 92fs.

My wife will have her Ruger 10/22 with 25 round magazine and three ten round magazines.

Right now I've got the remmington 700, ruger .357 security six, and the remmington auto loader. I would probably take the marlin .22 lr with also as it's a semi auto and my BOB has a rifle holster. Another rifle holster is in the works too. Going to be getting an H&K .45 acp this spring as well. Then the sig 556 and mossberg 500 with tactical accessories will be next.
