so put four wires of what length on the bolts? Also, 90deg like an X from the antenna perpendicular to the ground?

Yup

Wire length = 1/4 wavelength or cut wire to make a dipole, and if the verti is in use (say, not trees around) use the dipole wires for the counterpoise.
This is how I use mine.

Now, if you are going to use the dipole as a NVIS antenna, then 4 wires is good. Two wires for the active portion of the NVIS, the other two laid under the active portion.

You can two or four wires for a counterpoise/radial. You won't see a lot of difference with 4, I use two & work s as well as 4. Of course, your soil is far more conductive there in AZ, so 2 would be plenty.

OK?

Ok I kinda get it. I would use the bottom 2 bolts then for the wires so they would just lay on the ground since the wire would be long as heck. Next time you set up your ALICE pack and use a counterpoise, take a closeup of the setup please =)

I've bookmarked the thread and will take some photos. We hope to get out to one of the nearby glaciers this coming weekend. Should be some fun photos.

LOL
We about to go out the door, temp is a maybe high of 63, light winds and walking up to a glacier is the worlds best A/C.

Enjoy Feenix, there is a reason I left SoAz - I visit every year to two to remind myself just why ; ).

And here is the photo of the counterpoise.
More photos will be at commo bug out thread.

I modified the set up a bit - now has a different Pelican case, and I have the option of side mount of antena (AT-271 with the AB spring base for pedestrian mobile) or at the top for the larger AS/PRC-47 antenna.

Still weighs a metric crapton and I still have some more tweeking to do based on the mock bug out.
