Why do I -LOVE- handwarmers so much? Well, they're great for shaking up before you goto sleep. You can toss them down in the bottom of your sleeping bag and keep your toes warm. Some people will put a nalgene with hot water in their sleeping bag. I like handwarmers more because you can toss them in your boots in the morning and let them warm up before you put them on.

For use time and time again you can grab the reusable hand warmers as well. Just bend the metal disk inside and they will turn hot for several hours. Once your done with them rather than throwing them away if you put them into boiling water for 2 minutes they go soft and are completely reusable again. Means you don't need to carry so many, reduces waste and means that you can keep them going a long long time with no worries of running out.

I've have a couple of those... I accidently bumped the metal disk inside, but they do work pretty well.

Working along the Lighter idea.
I was looking at those hig dollar weatherproof lighters and I juct couldn't convince myself that I needed to spend the cash on one.
Insted I rembered the nifty little item that i had seen at the gas station the other day.

I know its not weatherproof but it is splash proof now.

Ducky, those lighter tops look great. Can you help us find a source that we can access on line?

I cant seem to find the ones show in the picture, but I did find another version.
I have seen ones like this in person and they are a bit tougher than the one I have.

How about these little individual drink tubes my wife gets from costco? http://zipfizz.com/ I have had her save a handfull of them for me. So far I have come up with a few uses for them. They are about four inches long and 1/2 inch in diameter, and water proof. So like a film case they are good for little things that you don't want to get wet or to keep organized. Here is what I have come up with... Mini fishing kit, line, weights, and a couple hooks.(The Closed Tube is a bright colored Bobber!) Dip a couple three ear swabs in petroleum jelly then roll in wax paper. Could probably fit about 10-15 matches in one. Maybe some rubbing alcohol for 1st aid or to pre heat your Primus Hiking stove. Fill full of cotton and charcoal and make a sipping straw?? Lot's of possibilities.

Removing the plastic handle of the multi-use hatchet let me wrap paracord around the handle for a better grip. Also with the handle removed, the hatchet slides through MOLLE webbing on the side of my pack. It is held in both places by duct and electrical tape (not an elegant solution). On the right is a mini crowbar wrapped in a similar manner.

Another simple trick to augment paracord: mark it in regular increments (meter/yard/foot/cubits or whatever you are familar with) before you wrap the item of your choice. It would provide an instant, flexible measuring stick and allows you to know how much you are using as you use it.

That's a great idea, and will work really well with my tan paracord and a black sharpie.

Thanks! :D

Thread a needle with spider wire or other high strength fishing line and put in fak. Makes great thread for repairing gear and much easier to use when already threaded, ready to go.

Pardon the terrible self portrait but this is a good tip:
Tie your microfiber travel towel to your backpack straps. This means you can wipe off sweat as you go. This is incredibly important if you are making ascents and sweating up a storm and then the temperature can drop rapidly. Wiping off your sweat when you stop will help prevent a chill as you layer up - you can see I have layered up in the pic with my hat and weird woolen poncho thing :D

Here's one that Is easy and useful. Modify a Fenix E01 single AAA flashlight to be an area light or a traffic wand. Use the cap off a chap stick, it will fit right on the end of the Fenix E01. Of course try to find one that is some what clear/white to let the light through. I used a one off some teatree organic something or other one. See pictures below.

Same picture but this time with the chapstick cap on

This camera takes very bad pictures. It actually does a pretty good job of defusing the light.

That's pretty awesome, DurzoBlint38. Looks like I'm going to be spending the evening taking all the caps off stuff and trying them on my various flashlights. :D

Very cool DurzoBlint38! It just so happens the chap-stick lid in my pocket fits the small Coast flashlight in my other pocket :D

I've done that before but that is a cool/good reminder. I put para cord though the lanyard hole and attach it to a tree, works great.

I took the orange tube roller out of the kids playdough kit and attached it to my edc light and made a signal baton. No pics, they wanted their toy back, just an idea.

I also took some 30 lbs test fishing line and a Large swivel with a snap hook and tied it around the base. So now I can hook the tube to my keychain, backpack, ear etc. JK on the ear. You could also put some aspirin or pain med of your choice in them.

I keep 6, loaded rifle mags in by BOB. Three are wrapped in camouflage duct tape and three are wrapped in paracord. I find this gives me another, more secure grip point in sweaty or wet weather, as well as extra tape and cord.

PICTURE THREAD!!

:D

I've started adding paracord loops to flashlights, just like the cigarette lighters. It makes it easy to attach to a pack, or hang from your keychain.

Take a CD, and either really sharp scissors, or an exacto blade... makes an ultralight signal mirror, that can double as a "good enough" camp mirror.
Don't have a pic of it anymore though.
