As was mentioned, .40 S&W is the same way. They've always got a ton of that stuff on the shelves. Even when ammo was hard to come by, .40 was readily available. That's actually what made me re-examine .40 S&W. 9mm might have been cheaper, but if I couldn't get my hands on any than it wasn't doing me any good.

I will reitterate this: pistol "camp carbine" style (.357/.38) expect to spend $500 and probably more.

i have become quite enamored with my lever action .22, and have decided i need something of a larger caliber.
the goal of the gun will be to use it as a hog rifle as soon as i get my hunting liscense.
.30/30 would be the most likely caliber, as itd have enough power inside of 100yds, and i can get the federal 150gr and 170gr for around 11 bucks a box so i could afford to practice with it a bit more
been looking at the marlin 336, as i can get one at my place of work for 346 or 399 (have to research into them to try to find out the exact models, as in our systems they both have the same description, yet one is cheaper) and then get my employee discount off the top
anyone have any suggestions?

Been withholding judgement so far on the post-move guns, but between what I'm seeing in person and this kind of thing........
(Not validating any of this guy's opinions, just thought the instance was worth noting)

That appears to be a broken stock due to improper shipping and/or abuse in transit. Any of lever guns of this style will break if lateral force is applied to that area of the stock. Marlin will replace it I a sure.

Go to page 11 of the catalog (linked below) it indicates a 336Y, walnut stock with barrel band, 161/4" barrel.
