You will want to be in Manbath. It's been hot and humid every time I've gone, and the Big Damn Hill is steep. I learned the first year to bring extra shirts since I sweated so much. You will welcome the cool waters of Manbath.

We've been getting a lot of complaints this year about the early closure of registration. I just want to say that I'm sorry but due to insurance reasons and respect of the land owners, so we dont cause damage to their property, we have to draw a line in the sand on the number of people. We will try to come up with a plan to increase the numbers for next year.

I know it's easier said than done, but as I always tell people, register early. It also saves you (and us) money. :)

Wicking shirts, underwear, socks.

For wicking shirts I prefer the Under Armour Tech-tee, but at $20 each, they're a little expensive. I was at Target tonight and saw that Champion (under their C9 label) has a tech tee for about $11/each.

If you don't yet have some wicking shirts for Z-con, the C9 shirts I'm referring to would definitely do the trick.

Acclimate yourself to hot humid weather.

Exercise.

Zombie Con is rough and hot and will kick your ass if you work an indoor job and don't prep yourself for it. Nature wants to kill you.

Hey all. I'm sure nobody remembers me from the 2010 ZCON, but I was the guy related to the owner of the property (Matt) who spoke to hardly anyone. I did however have lengthy conversations with the "Canadians", Ednan, Jeriah, Tom and talked to Kyle a little bit. Anyway, I don't know that anyone remembers me but I've had a rough year and won't make this trip. I feel guilty for not attending any of the meetings or donating etc. so I don't really feel like I deserve to go anyway. That's something I plan to change in the future. I was blindsided by my 3-year-old sons Autism diagnosis in Dec. Since then I've experienced every emotion from grief (like I'd lost him) to, remorse, guilt etc. In the six months that have passed I've learned to be more positive about the situation and I've even been diagnosed myself with the same affliction, albeit his is more severe. Then I lost my job on top of it. All this said, I want to wish you all a super fun ZCON this year. I wish I could make it and I really want that dog tag.
Take a lot of pics! I really wanted to get more involved but this past year has kicked my ass. I hope to get to know you all better in the next year and attend ZCON 2012, if only just to kick everyone's asses at movie trivia again! 8)

When Kyle says it's hot, he isn't kidding (and he isn't using hot in the way Paris Hilton uses it).

If you aren't currently getting any exercise, at a minimum start walking a couple times a week. If nothing else, you'll hate yourself less once you get to Z-con.

due to living in Michigan, hot weather isn't really a norm, but I grew up in Atlanta, my body still loves warm weather for the most part,

+1 on the C9 stuff. I got a couple for the trip and tried them out doing yard work. I was sweating like crazy, but the shirt and I stayed pretty dry.

Just a heads up for anyone interested. At least a few of us will be bringing magic decks for some mid afternoon geekery under the main tent. Some sort of protective sleeve highly recmmoended.

You'll be camping on a fairly steep hill. If you want to avoid sliding around within your tent (assuming you're using a tent and not a hammock), bring some non-stick shelf liner or a non-stick carpet pad (they're basically the same material). Place the shelf liner/carpet pad under whatever sort of pad you're sleeping on and enjoy not sliding around inside your own tent.

Another point I thought is if that if you're planning to bring a camp chair, remember you'll be placing your chair on ground that's already on an angle. If you sit relatively upright in the chair you're bringing, be prepared to be pitched forward once you're sitting in it on the hill. Last year, after observing Oly and his wife sitting comfortably in these: http://www.rei.com/product/765272/rei-comfort-ltg-chair, I bought two and will be bringing them.
