Zombie Con 2006

Postby kyle » Thu Feb 23, 2006 2:43 pm

More details to come but I just wanted to let you know it will be the first weekend of June.
That's Thursday June 1st - Sunday June 4th

This year will be limited to 40 people but we will announce in advance when registration will officially open and how much it will cost to register.

The event will be similar to Zombie Con 2005 but bigger, better and a lot more stuff going on. Info about Z-Con 2005...

The event: http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1954
The movies: http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4329

Here's another thread about Z-Con 2006:

ZombieCon 2005 was an excellent time and I'm looking forward to 2006. It was my introduction to Zombie Squad, and although I knew many of the members already, the con introduced me to many more and made a ZS believer out of me.

Of all the events to go to, this is the one. I love the regular meetings, bug-out exercises, parties, biking, roller-skating and other events; but ZombieCon is really the preeminent Zombie Squad function.

For anyone new coming, our camp is up on a hill with good slope and lots of rocks. Plan your tent and pack accordingly. I brought a huge tent that has only seen the flatlands. It was no match for the hill so I slept in a tarp. It blew chunks. There are trees, so a good sleeping hammock will serve you well.

Who knows what ZombieCon 2006 will bring? But if you missed last year you missed the bee log, manbath, man-eating spiders, the cesspool... er.... big river, "Where's Chuck?," the Thor dump, tons of zombie movies, and a lot of zombie target practice.

:D

ZCon was the best time I have had on vacation in a very long time. The awesome site, bad zombie movies, the plethora of inside jokes, and the holy body of water known as “manbath” were all great things but for me the thing that made Zcon awesome was the people. A lot of us came from different parts of the country(Slings and I drove 15 hours to get here, ;-) ) but we all got along so well. Everyone was determined to make sure that everyone else had a great time, and we all did.

I honestly can’t wait for this year’s Zombie Con.

Just don't let Gundown piss in your camp chair.

Now that it’s official, does anyone else plan on flying into the area?

I will be flying into the area and it would be really nice to either A) share the rental cost for a car with someone or B) preferably, hitch a ride with someone from the airport to the camp site.

Before I go book any flights I would need to get everything worked out in advance. What is the name of the nearest airport to the camp site?

Second, while I can bring most of my gear, the airlines have these crazy rules about bring on flammable fuel (go figure?) so I will probably have to pick up some essentials on site. Is there a sporting goods store around there?

Another idea is car-pooling. If need be, i can hop on a train and meet people further south.

We can arrange to get you a ride as long as it's not too late on Thursday, since most people will probably be at camp by then. Drop me an e-mail at zombiesquad@gmail.com and we can work it out.

Gear might be able to be arranged as well, depending on what you need. We will have some stuff available for use but it's first come, first serve. Let me know what you will need. But, there are some shops as well.

My plans are to get there early that morning. Worst comes to worst i can walk around the airport with a gun case looking suspicious. That’s always turns into some fun times.

The only thing i would need gear wise would be fuel for a backpacking stove and a lighter. Oh... and some Booze! They don't let that stuff on the plane.

When things start to get finalized i will drop you an email and let you know what’s going on. I am not going to book anything until things are 100% finalized. Hell, I may not get lucky enough to get a spot on the registration list . : )

Thanks much! Still in the planning stages so don't get to worked up about my liver but i really appreciate the offer. I will try and figure things out soon so i can let you know way in advance. What’s the nearest airport to you?

I'm a little hesitant to come crawling out of lurker-mode. I'm never able to hang out or help out. I'm so out of the loop... (Perhaps an asshat is in order?)

But as an attendee of ZC05, it was my first full-on experience with the squad, not to mention the first time I planted myself among a bunch of strangers based on a love, or rather hatred, of the shambling dead. Though I may have seemed quiet and reserved, when I wasn't hurling half-digested cantalope and Tang! onto the driver of a minivan, I look back on the experience when I need to smile. Everyone was so approachable and nice and seemed to welcome everyone else with open minds and open arms.

From the discussions of prime numbers, subsistence farming, tattoos, music, pornstar anal bleaching, philanthropy, squads vs clubs, and Thor's uncanny ability to squat out a crap every thirty feet whether on land or in the sea... From the drinking, the canoe drag, the icy embrace of ManBath, the bed of jagged rocks, the most awesome truck ever, and the sweet orchestra of gunfire... To colorfully inbred local service station attendants who have trouble controlling the volume of their voices, Ashnack and his almost inhuman collection of zombie fare, and watching the living and the undead couple in ways only a b-movie director could fathom while under a sky filled with more stars than I've ever seen at one time... Hands down, one of the greatest vacation weekends I've ever had, made all the more awesome by the incredible caliber of the members of Zombie Squad.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this year as I'll be in the process of moving to Las Vegas. (Maybe we could have a ZC out in the Nevada desert? Sandpocalypse? Hotashellnarok?) But I'll be thinking of everyone and wishing I was there.

Wow. It is time already for another Z Con. I can’t wait. I have already got the ok from the boss for one last vacation before I have to start my real work. I will plan on driving up as that is the only way I can easily bring my collection of Guns, Wine and Cigars (yes I truly believe in roughing it). I cant wait to see everyone again, some I have seen at Archon or Wintergedeon but other (looking at the Grifter) I have not seen since the con.

This is the most relaxing vacation on earth, no cell phones, no alarms and no zombies (except for the targets).

I dream of an evening of drinking in the man bath and a day of dragging canoes down a dry river. I look forward to range day when I know we will have even more cool guns and people willing to teach each other about their toys (and then let you fire them).

Yes, Virginia there are Zombies but thanks to ZS and Z Con you will be kept safe :)

I still get excited when I think about Z-Con. I have about five people who swear they are coming, but I don't think we'll have space for all of them. I'm sure Grifter and I will be leading a caravan of vehicles out to MO again this year from the east coast. For those who don't want to fly out there and worry about transportation, anyone who is attending Z-Con 06' is welcome to jump in one of our cars and join the 15 hour marathon of driving. Fellow travelers can meet us in our away point in NJ and we'll take care of the rest of the trip.

I am still amazed at how cool everyone was at Z-Con 05'. Every single person made sure that everyone else had a great time; and we did. I was a little wary at first about meeting up with a bunch of people I had only know from this forum, but every last one of these folks are decent people who genuinely care about others and want to make a positive impact on society. I still owe Jamoni for carrying my ill-packed trunk of gear across the ravine, but I'm sure I'll be able to make up for it at this event. There was also a sense of instant community amongst the attendees of Z-Con 05'. Even though many of us were meeting for the first time, everyone was willing to share there gear and help out with tent space, carrying equipment, and set up the site. I would, however; recommend that eveyone bring a camp chair as the ground is a bit lumpy and sloped.
