Informal/Impromptu Shoot.

Postby shoggoth80 » Fri May 13, 2011 9:00 pm

Hey all.
I am meeting a friend or two tomorrow at the gravel pit down off Waddell Creek in the Capitol State Forest around 10am. This is not a ZS event, just more an informal get together to shoot the shit, and shoot stuff. I posted on two other sites I use that have local members. Just trying to find a fun way to integrate things, be social, and fill the hills with lead.
If interested, drop me a line, or post here. Though I prefer PM, as those notifications seem to work better (ie: more timely) than thread responses. Lemme know if you want to show.

Well, you guys missed out
It was a very fun time. The Suicide Pit (gravel pit off Waddell Creek) can be a little iffy sometimes, as it is one of the few free places to shoot outdoors around here... so all kinds go there (even careless kinds)... but all in all it was a great time. Ended up just being myself, my girlfriend, my buddy, and his wife. The prices paid were sunburn, and of course, ammo expenditure. I replaced what I shot in my SKS and then some. Not stressing the blasting of .45acp, because I load for it, got plenty of 20ga left, and x54R (which is also relatively cheap)... But since the SKS is such a fun gun to shoot... I needed to stock up a bit. Tossed a bunch of 5.56 down range too, but I am still not the best with the aperture AR sights. I can hit a man, in a relatively close cluster at defense ranges, and could probably hit a man at range (which is the main thing). I still have my reserve mags of 5.56, and most of what was shot today was cheap steel cased 5.56 anyway. Blew through a few hundred rounds total between everything.
Still, puts a grin on the face, and keeps basic marksmanship up. I can take pretty much any of my guns, and hit within an acceptable margin in terms of defensive shooting (as in, a BG would still be hit, and hit hard) which is important.
All in all, a good day. Next time something like this happens...I think I will try and put some more planning into it, just so a few more folks can show up.

Lol...oh yeah...Lesson reinforced:
Ammo is heavy. I had my ALICE ruck about full (1 pistol, some paper targets, a roll of tape, and the rest was ammo... 5 different calibers), and it weighed entirely too much, and was hard to move about with (had to park the car, and walk into the pit to shoot). 210rds 5.56, 80rds x39, 80rds x54R, 250rds .45acp, 80rds 20ga. 700 rounds grand total in my pack. Kept all my guns fed for 4 hours, but man! Didn't burn through all of it, but a fair chunk of it. Just reinforces the idea that people who think they are gonna bug out with 80billion! rounds of whatever caliber are just full of it, and never humped a pack loaded down with ammo.
