Long Island overnight anytime between 19th and the 1st

Postby ffozlum » Mon Apr 11, 2011 6:39 pm

I'm coming home on leave and I haven't gone real camping in almost 3 years now. (overseas stations suck for that) I'd like to do a quick hiking/camping trip, and maybe get to know some ZSers in the LI area. No solid plans on where yet, from what I remember you can do it at indian Island, southhaven county park (I think), and wildwood state park. I'm open to suggestions, and everyone's welcome. Really it can be any time in that span except a friday night.

Disclaimer: I have very limited gear as my main set of gear is heading to my next post as we speak. What's left is all stuff I had from when I was a kid (tent, sleeping bag, pack, mess kit (I think), and whatever else I might still have in my grandmother's attic)

**Edit** I'm on leave now, so I'm not going to be on the internet at all the whole time.

It's funny you mention Indian Island, I drove thru there yesterday in the rain. Only two RV's and 1 small tent occuppied the entire campgrounds. That is real family camping since you have a Walmart, McDonalds ice cream parlor and other businesses
all within 5 minutes of the park. I have done family camping there 3 times, twice with tents, once with a 31ft travel trailer, its a nice place for car camping.

Great time of year for it too. Snow is gone, and ticks ain't out yet.

Unfortunately, my gear situation isn't anywhere near where I thought it was, so I won't be doing any until fall most likely. Some dayhikes, yes, but no overnights any time soon.

Eh, it's worth a try. It's so hard to put together something like this last minute. Unfortunately, pretty much everything I need to put together is last minute. Anyway, I still haven't gotten any solid replies from anyone back home, and the trip is still open up until Sunday when I won't be on the forum for a few weeks after that.
