I thought I sent this off a few weeks ago but I guess not. And, since not everyone is a huge roller derby fan and hasn't been waiting on baited breath for the next season to start, I thught I'd send out an official email about Zombie Squad's duties.
Who: Any paid ZS member, or Sasha, who has earned her stripes like no one's business.
What: Security detail for ARRG. ( Usher detail. Basically we check for hand stamps and point towards the bathrooms and ATM. )
When: 1 Saturday night a month until April 11/13, 12/4, 1/8, 2/12 & 3/12 (playoffs) and 4/9 (Championship). We aren't exactly sure about the time frame. For the first bout I will be there at 4:30. Bouts should still be done by about 9:30, so there's plenty of time to party. Like at the ARRG afterparty... I will post a more accurate time after this week's bout. ARRG has branched out to 4 teams this year so every bout is a double header. There will also be a couple of bouts that are not scheduled, I will post as soon as I know.
Where:The All American Sports Mall
11133 Lindbergh Business Court
St. Louis, MO 63123
ph. (314) 487-4625
Why: Besides a chance for ZS members to get together and bond, ARRG does a lot to support our blood drives and food drives. Besides, it's roller derby and we get in free. Who wouldn't want to? Seriously though, this gig is very easy, and I encourage any members that are a bit unsure of their level of involvement to come give it a try. Besides, it's a public venue and there are lots of exits.
Other useful info: What do we do? Basically we are over-dressed ushers. Point people to the restrooms, check for hand stamps, and the like. It's a real nice bunch of folks. We have never had any trouble from any spectators, just a couple bar patrons. Technically that's their problem, not ours, but ZSers have a strong sense of civic duty. There is a liscensed/bonded PAID security guard, Carconne (sp?) who is there to be the real security force. He can kick butt, we can't.
In the past, Zombie Squad has traditionally dressed in all black. T-Shirts, pants, gloves, boxers. This year, since I can't find the official security stuff anyway, I'd like to spruce it up a bit. Black is still the word, but I think we'd get a lot more press and interest if we added 17 pieces of flair. Or a beret and tac vest. Or a blue Mohawk. Personally I want a beret. ARRG is a big show, after all, and we should contribute. BUT REMEMBER: The scarier you look the more you have to smile so's not to freak anyone out. No Airsofts, either. I haven't got permission from anyone for that. Honestly I totally dig the Fallout style costumes we rocked this year. So dress for fun! Fun in black.
If I left anything out, or you have any questions, let me know!
(sorry about the tardiness again. ARRG is gonna kick my butt!)
