Zombies just wait it out?

I have watched all the zombie movies and T.v shows and was just wondering if you survived the initial outbreak and found a solid place to hang out with food and plenty of water like a mall or warehouse couldn't you just hold out. and wait for the zombies just to decompose. there bodies would begin to rot and fall apart. it seems it is just a waiting game

First of all, welcome to ZS. we use zombies as a metaphor for when the poop hits the air circulation device, but dont let the naysayers tell you its not possible :wink:

Secondly, its frowned upon here to discuss taking shelter in places where you be scavenging stuf thats not yours, just giving you a friendly heads up that you might wanna read the rules before you get some of the grouches here after ya :lol:

I would much rather be in my own house. Having your own food and water supply/storage means you wouldn't have to go search for a warehouse/mall and try to fortify that position. Also, you would be leaving your house to do this, most likely when everyone else is panicking and trying to do similar things.

Also, depending on the mythology, the decomposition could take a long time. There will also be new zombies who have been recently turned adding to their numbers for quite a long time.

If we cover all the movies to date we can have a few issues because there will probably be a number of different types of zombies to contend with.

1. standard shambling zombie - these will be slow to move due to decomposition or injuries they have received (broken/missing limbs), and only become dangerous when you are not paying attention or they come at you in great numbers. Time will eventually destroy these creatures. This will be the most common according to all movies. If they shamble into a area that is radiated they may change to the more dangerouse Radiated Shambling zombie (see number 4)

2. Fresh killed zombies - these could also be known as runners they would have no injuries or signs of decomposition yet so everything will be intact. they will be able to move at greater speeds that a person can run at and able to maintain that unlike normal humans who will eventually run out of breath. These will be very common in the initial attacks but will die down after a few weeks as they begin to decompose which will turn them into the standard shambling zombie (see number 1). if they go into a radiated area they can turn into the Radiated Fresh killed Zombie (see number 5).

3. Strong Backs - these are the zombies that once where people stronger then you. the can break down doors and are just like any other zombie just they have a lot of strength to back them up. They can decompose or become injured and will turn into the standard shambling zombie (see number 1) or they could move into a radiated area and turn into the more dangerouse tanks (see number 6)

4. Radiated Shambling zombie - due to the government trying to rid the world of this mennace they will probably drop nuclear bombs on major cities. This will most likly stop any decomposition to the bodies of the zombies. Depending upon when they died before they where radiated they will have some decomposition but will not continue to decompose after being exposed to the radiation. Injuries will still slow them down such as broken or missing limbs. They are more dangerouse then the standard shabling zombie because they will now be giving off radiation which will eventually kill you with exposure. They should be dealt with from a distance when encountered, because if a large enough number show up you better hope you are in at least a 14 inch thick concreet bunker for the rest of your life.

5. Radiated Fresh Killed Zombies - These will be zombies that where created by the nuclear blast (exposure), or people who have walked in alive into a radiated area then walk out dead. they will have the ability to run since they are not injured or decaying in any way. Highly danerous and should be taken out when you can preferably one at a time or from a tower due to their ability to close the shooting distance in a very short time.

6. TANKS (AKA Radiated Strong Backs) - these are the strong zombies that have radiation. they can break through beriers and move things that a normal zombie would just hit making noise. they do not decompose and can be dangerouse for years to come.

7. Smarties - Depending upon location and number of other zombies around these ones will be dangerous because they will have maintained cognative thinking, possible ability to speak and communicate, ability to open doors and do other functions that a normal person could (Shoot a gun), Some may even make use of memories they had from their past life such as security codes or combinations to locks. If radiated they will be around for a long time. otherwise they will only be around long enough to decompose. Must be taken out when encountered because they may be able to organize the rest of the zombies find you and will eventually get to you.

Yep.
Stay in your nice secure BIL until the zombies crumble and it's safer to travel, then decide whether to stay in BIL#1 or go to BIL#2.
Depending on where the problem areas are, everyone would come here or go to the 'vacation' property. If those are out, we have a couple of less desirable places to go.
