i was sent a PM and asked this question...

Are 'urban' AOs acceptable for the contest?

my answer is YES. the rules do not say you must campout in the woods, all they say is that you must spend 24 hours outside.

its possible that you live in a large city. its also possible that when SHTF you cant get out of the city by car. you may be forced to walk some distance with your BOB to get somewhere safe. i think there is plenty of urban skill / " concretecraft " that can be shown and posted.... personally i would love to see this situation get posted.

if you setup camp under a bridge you kick ass!

The judge idea sounds solid. I completely understand the concerns.

I have the following items approved for donation for you guys to do with as you wish (view's choice or judge choice). Just let us know where to mail them after it's done:

Kyle and ZS have donated 1 - ZS Hoodie (winner chooses size) 1 - ZS Watch Cap 1 - ZS Canteen. These prizes can get split up for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, OR we can have a veiwers choice poll ( like kyle suggested ) to decide who gets these prizes, but YOU GUYS WILL NEED TO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH THESE!!!
I think it would be cool to have these three prizes go to a veiwers choice. It could possibly give another three people a chance to win a prize. we could even remove the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from that. this would gaurantee another three people get a prize...LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK!

I think they should be given out as a 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize for a viewer's choice poll, and that those who win prizes in the judged portion should be excluded from the Kyle/ZS donated prizes. That would mean 6 people getting prizes, that spreads the wealth and should help drive up participation.

I really like the idea of a "peoples choice" award. A poll, or a write-in since the poll feature doesn't seem to work very well anymore.
A few trinkets can go a long way towards morale

It just so happens that I have been planning a winter camping trip but it involves group of 4 or 5 of us. Majority would be included in my party during a bug out situation but im unsure if having group disqualifies me from entering the trip in the contest.

being with a group does not disqualify you from the contest. keep in mind the contest wasnt meant to be a group bug out contest. if you enter the contest make sure your entry includes pics of YOUR gear, and YOUR skills. having photos of your friends / groups shelters and gear in the background is ok, but again the contest is about you and your gear working together to survive in your AO in the winter. cool?
