Uh Oh I see in the rules gear must be strapped to back . Actually BOR is strapable for fording streams etc . Will that suffice ?

The Rules wrote:Your trip should include some amount of hiking with your gear / pack strapped to your back.

it would be a good idea to have a pack on your back.

with that said the use of a sled, or any other means to carry, pull, or haul EXTRA gear is ok. if i lived in an area that got snow im sure i would use a pull behind sled to help with extra gear. if your homemade cart / sled would be part of your winter bug out gear than its ok with me.

Given the prize list I can't believe there is only one entry to date (mine doesn't count). Is ZS that soft? I think next weekend I will get the snowshoes and do up a second 3 day trip.

Still building gear . Wish you would do another trip tho . I really dig seeing other peoples BOL and gear . I can't believe what a great idea this thread is .
Also been doing a little scouting , hoping for a little edible , in season critters other then shrew . Heres a washed out sun this morning at 12 degrees F. Squeaky snow this morning which always means teens . I can't believe those white tail love Red Cedars , kinda like eating brillo pads .

The thread was posted on the Friday before last. Most people would open their weekend for such an event. This past weekend was the first REAL weekend of the contest. Contest goes till FEB 28th. ZSC001 just did our Winterg(h)eddon this past weekend and got home last night. We haven't even started our breakdown yet.

So in other words. CHILL THE F#CK OUT. (not saying that to be an a$$hole about it, I just wanted to take full opportunity to use that pun for the contest).

ETA: pic from ZSC001 WintergHeddon to keep the spirit of the competition alive:

Longtime lurker here, actually registered for this one, looks fun. Will post ASAP. Just got back from a long weekend camping with the family so it might be early February before I get to go off by myself for an extended time. This place holding post should keep me motivated :-)....

Shelter works no matter what is and seem to work pretty good for him from pics.
I would feel lucky to have that set-up when SHTF.

All our snow melted so I am waiting for another storm. So far not looking so good for bad weather... Unless the Superstorm shows up

I went out about a week ago, but didn't manage past the 7-hour mark. I only have a 20 degree bag, and the weather decided to take a rapid plunge below that. I packed up and made it home fine. Pics in a different thread later, since 7<24. I'll find another night before the end of February to work on my entry. Sadly, buying new gear isn't in the forecast.

+100, this guy shows you don't have to be high speed, low drag to survive and be comfortable in a harsh environment. It is nice to have top of the line uber name-brand gear. Sometimes all you need is a couple of trips to your local hardware store and a little bit of ingenuity. Also, getting off your ass and actually entering a harsh enviroment to practice skills helps too.

I hope so. Not so sure about the snowshoe thing. Looking at a few days of wintery mix, then cold with maybe more snow for the trip. Depending on the amount of rain I may not need them. Then there is the issue of floating the camp or digging in? Not sure at this point but if all goes well I should be heading out with a buddy on Friday.

great photos wyo!

seems like we have some guys fired up and itching to get out.... hell they are even waiting for crappy cold weather! i love it! :D

we have a little cold front coming down this weekend, but its the wifes baby shower, and i need to help the FIL set everything up before we go out to the range... ( need to knock the dust of my .22 and make sure its still sighted in )

im still trying to hold off in hopes that we get one last really cold one before winter is over for us down here. i also need to get some permits in order for the place i wanna go since i plan on doing a little small game hunting while im out. i have a hunting license, but need daily use permits and camp permits for this WMA. ( at leats thats what the clerk at the fish and game office told me... :? )

I'm in and have some new gear coming in soon. Great way to test it out. Does it matter how long the videos are? Or a prefered limit on time line for video usage?
