West Texas Wintergeddon

Postby sigboy40 » Sat Jan 01, 2011 11:10 am

It's that time again, time to start planning our annual pilgrimage of cold suckage. Nothing is set in stone yet; location and date are yet to be determined.
I am currently leaning towards The 2nd or 4th weekend of February at Caprock Canyon State Park.

We also need to plan activities, and decide whether or not we are going to do a group meal.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.

Anytime other than next weekend (jan 7th) and the first weekend in feb (feb 5th) works well for me. The last weekend in feb is only 2 weeks from spring break.

I should be going. Bryan may or may not be, depending on what job he finds.

I'm up for a group meal if we can make it Primal (not eating grains or sugars - haven't felt this good in a long time).

Last year we did a group meal. One guy made chili, and the other guy made corn bread. It was just enough to feed the crowd we had after our accidental 12 mile hike.

I am inclined to plan this for Feb 12-13th at Caprock Canyon State Park. Objections?

That makes a 2/3 majority so far!

Looks like it may be time to send PM's to all of our less active personel.

Here is last years Wintergeddon thread: http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=57999

Here is the event listing on FaceBook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=182065565150433&num_event_invites=0

Here is the write up on FaceBook:
This years Wintergeddon will have 50% more suck then last year! Although we cannot promise ice crystal laced fog, extended hikes due to washed out trails, or mud that sticks to your boots, making you taller. We can promise a good time by all! There will be cake (if you want pie, bring your own)! There will be blue wire! Our Internet Freak Flag will be flying!
Currently in the planning process is a group meal Saturday evening.... A trail run sometime Saturday, a short hike. Some classes may be taught. I am considering a knot tying class, posssibly a cold weather survival class, and I am open to other suggestions.
This will be an overnight tent camping trip, there will be restrooms available, and possibly running water. If the burn ban is lifted, I can pack my large tent, complete with wood burning stove. There is a fire ring available. I only ask that everybody brings firewood so that there is no shortage.
You are also welcome to come out just for the day if you don't want to spend the night! We will be camping 20 yards from the road, there is no reason to not come and visit!

All that is left is to organize our activities, so lets get the suggestions rolling! What do YOU want to see or do?

If the burn ban is lifted, I want to start learning how to cook over an open fire.

Trade Blanket is duly noted. Hopefully we arent using the blankets to stay warm.

Event is now cross posted to the meetinig room.

I am considering inviting some of the Oklahoma members. Any objections?

edit on the warmth issue- Should we still be under a burn ban, propane heaters will be allowed. So.....I can still set up the heater in the big tent and we can have some sembalance of comfort. However, if we do that, bring cash, because I am going to want to play poker so that I can cover my propane expenditure.

No objections here... and I believe we have quorum and majority on the vote, so the motion passes.

Rough schedule for those who are planning on driving in from down south.
Saturday:"
10am - 2 pm arrival and camp set up.

2pm- 4 mile day hike to an awesome freshwater spring

3pm- tarp shelter setup pointers during the hike. Bring your USGI ponchos or other tarp shelter

6pm- Dinner, pot luck style, bring plenty and we can all share.

Sunday:

9am- Campfire cooking,

11am- trail run/day hike

I am tentatively planning on trying to arrive by 6pm Friday night if anybody wants to arrive early. I wont know for a few more weeks. But my plan is to leave work that Friday and drive straight to the campsite and get the big tent set up.

I plan to make a big pot of spaghetti sauce next weekend. It will have Italian sausage in it as well. If someone else is willing to bring & cook noodles (I'm gluten-(completely) and grain-free (mostly), wheat doesn't come into my kitchen), I'll bring spaghetti sauce and make zucchini noodles for me.

I think we can make that happen. I will bring the noodles.

Does anybody else want to bring the bread?

I will have my gridle, we can just heat it up on that, or throw it on the BBQ.
