What did you today for your BOV/how did you prepare your BOV

its actually a simple question. what did you do to help prepare your BOV/ or help your BOV in some way today?

it could be as simple as "i bought a Pioneer tool kit" or " i did a complete fluid change in the vehicle" to as complex as "i did a complete coil over suspension lift" or i just got done swapping in a 4BT Cummins in my wrangler"

the reason for this thread is it may help others realize deficiencies in their plan and make them say "hey i never thought about that before, and that may help me out during the ZAW against the ZED's while en route to my BOL with my BOV and BOG...." (if you dont know those acronyms you obviously haven't been here at ZS long, and i suggest more reading is necessary) as well as a tool for people who may already been looking for something and we can help guide them to a place to get it.

Since it's snowing and my primary 4x4 bov is doa atm I put 150lbs of sand in the back of my pos ranger for traction.

Nice idea for a thread, since BOG, Firearms, and other subforums here have these sorts of lists. Hope this catches on, as bugout for many people involve a vehicle of some form or another.

I'll start out with a pretty extensive but quick critique on my own BOV preps, since I had the enlightening experience of dealing with the unfortunate possibility of "entire lack of transportation" on wednesday morning. My primary BOV is a '70 Chevy K20 that is pretty reliable for a daily driver, but she had been suffering from some starting issues that had arisen during the cold snap the week before... to the point of me needing to jump the rig off from my spare battery. The colder it got, the worse it got. Eventually, I couldn't get it started to roll to work. The BOV was effectively crippled... and I couldn't get my morning cappuccino. Traced a parasitic drain back to a specific circuit, disconnected it and charged up the battery and thought I would be good to go. No Go. Voltage regulator got stuck open, blew the headlights out last night from overload. Bad juju driving through town with the lights off... ya know.

1. Today, I purchased and replaced the alternator and regulator... bought a duplicate belt for spares (since the box ones were wrong)
2. Bought new headlights, since they were cooked.
3. Bought 2 new replacement bulbs for my pillar mount spotlights. That one saved my ass driving in the dark.
4. Rehashed my truck box contents in list format, to be updated as needed.
5. Determined that the BOV still has along way to go.

myself i bought my new ZS fleet vehcile decals this week, and more and bigger things coming soon (new tires, exhaust, intake cb installed etc)

Thanks a ton. I've really enjoyed this site so far. My truck is a 1991 Chevy C1500 1/2 ton short wheel-base. It's getting close to a rat rod of sorts though. 4wd transmission minus the transfer case, freshly rebuilt. The snorkel is going to be small diameter black corregated drainage pipe. I found it cheap at a local hardware store. Expanded metal mesh over the opening, just so I dont get leaves, squirrels etc in there. The squirrel mention is from experience, don't ask lol.

I haven't found a local chapter really, only a few people in Alabama. But, I will update all of the other things. Not much getting done on anything for about a week, I have finals for the next four days.

brought inside western plough for fitting - snowed in Ontario fitting to main BOV

Have to defer roll cage till xmas was supposed to be bday present but bought on ebay a funfair Dodgem car - fitting it with 2 cyl lawntractor engine as its open and once im off the rink i need to outrun the Z's quickly - yea OK ive wanted a bumper car since i was a kid - completes the man cave nicely

Ordered new rear control arms. spherical rod end bearings and tubular to replace the rubber bushing, stamped pieces. This will help the car accelerate on wet pavement or dirt and gravel, without spinning the tires, or "chattering" the rear end.

Ordered new bushings, and inner/outer tie rod ends for the front. They're maybe 30 years old, so it's time for them to go.

and maybe a CB radio... not sure yet. maybe the old midland can be saved.

Picked up a set of slightly used 20L water and gas cans made by Wedco. The gas can is pre-carb which seems to be what everyone (at least in CA) is after. $20 for the water and $40 for the gas, man I can't resist a good deal.

Ordered Dick Chepek FCII hybrid tires, +2 oversized upgrade from factory. Got the fronts struts off today, will have the new Rough Country lift kit and Old Man Emu HD shocks in tomorrow.

So that is almost $1,700 of upgrades this weekend

I didn't do anything mechanical or fab wise to to my rig, but I just bought something that could be useful for the BOV or on foot.
Midland 75-822 CB.

Once it arrives, I'll be planning this in order:
1. Work out the best setup for permanent (vehicle mounted) COMMS.
2. Figure out fixed antenna placement.
3. Install secondary AUX +12v socket on dash.
4. Clean up the mess under the dash, test and install CB.
5. Mod some things from there as needed.

I'll list what went on with my BOV, and my dad's BOV (Even though he doesnt know it's a BOV, I havent told him yet haha)

Dad went from 31" Yokocraphamas to 33" Goodyear Duratrac E-Range LT tires (7ply tread)

In my 4x4 Dakota
-New rear speakers (Not really a prep, but they were totally blown and rattling, and how will I listen to some Skynyrd while I am bugging out?)
-Front Tow Hitch (Class III, 9500lb line pull (will have winch tray soemday), and locking hitch pin for hooking up a tow strap for front recovery))
-Rear WARN shackle hitch (Basically a tow shackle on a receiver mount)
-Refilled both 5-Gal Scepter cans with "winter fuel" + fuel stabilizer
-Few weeks ago, but emptied blue washer fluid and replaced with Prestone deicer winter fluid ( I park outside )
-Oil change from summer 10W-30 to winter 5W-30 Amsoil 100% Synthetic

Planned for next ~3 weeks:
-Mount CB Antenna
-Front Shackle hitch
-Better tow strap (currently have 20'-2" autozone one, want a better one)
