Cool. In. No lame "I can't go it's Valentine's Day" excuses out there :)

No playing around this year. I'm bringing the big guns both temp and comfort wise.

Awesome... I'm in. Can't wait. I'll tell Laditek to take time off.

I was thinking of doing a computer box-oven turkey this year...what does everyone think of pot-luck dinner one night?

Pot luck sounds great! I may do another rabbit curry... :D But I'll skip yours if you're really cooking it in an old computer case. Those things have noxious chemicals painted on them.

I like the idea of a pot luck.

I'm thinking foil cooking potatoes, onions and meat of some kind.

Nah, you use a large cardboard computer box lined with several layers of tin foil. Inside you have a grate on top of some rocks or bricks and underneath that, you put a tray with charcoal. We used to do it in boy scouts every thanksgiving.

I'm in for the potluck, and will provide a selection of hot beverages, both adulterated and kid-ified...

It's a right shame that beer explodes at that temperature... Oh well, I guess we'll be thawing more premade margaritas this year!

If you bury it in the snow, it ought not to freeze...

You just don't want to lose your auxiliary heat source.

Bunsen: I know I've asked this half a dozen times, but what were those wool pants you had? I really want some for this year's WCT. I wanna say East German, but I can't remember.

Double-post!

I sleep with my windows open at home in the colder months, and pile a bunch of blankets on. Last night, all cozy and warm I thought it would be a good idea to put my MSS inside my big fluffy Coleman and then sew a outer shell made of tarp to keep snow and moisture out. I know the MSS suffices, but now that I know that, I'm thinking I want to go all-out car camping in terms of warmth.

IIRC, they were simply labeled "German" in the surplus store, and were the only pair on the rack. Upon further inspection, there's a Swedish-looking crown logo above the number 1941 stamped inside the waistband. They appear to bear some similarity to the Google results for "swedish wool pants," but without the cuff straps (there looks to be something removed from the cuffs, though, and there's leftover stitching). I suspect I just got a mutilated and mislabeled pair of Swedish pants.

Fair enough. I really liked the extra pockets yours had, I'll have to keep on the lookout.

I don't see a lot of likely suspects in this thread, but on the off chance you are considering this trip but unsure of your sleep system...

I've been admiring these Cabelas 3D sleeping bags "from afar" for quite some time and they are now on sale. Long story short they are synthetic bags, available in rectangular or mummy. The mummy is a good deal cheaper, the rectangular does have a mummy-style hood though and would offer more room for the active/claustrophobic sleeper. $79.88 for the regular size -30 rated bag. Note- although I've always liked the look of these bags, especially the "3D" look, I don't have anything to offer regarding the realism of the weather ratings.

Those look like nice bag for a good price. My big thing is Clothing. As some of you seen at the Frontier Town trip I wear allot of layers and was still cold (mainly the bottom half ,4 layers) . Its not easy to move around in that many layers (7) & heavy as shit! I would love to go but afraid I would spend most of my time in the tent. If any one has knowledge of a good coat & pant set up and or extreme cold weather clothing that doesn't cost much I would be grateful. I would love to get more involved in the charity part of the chapter.

I read through the much of the previous three years' threads tonight after seeing a thread on winter camping. I'd be game for this if I had a bit more kit.
