One group using an unusual approach to bug-out bags is the Zombie Squad.

In addition to its zombie-related activities, the group formed several years ago in St. Louis but now with national and international chapters is heavily involved in emergency preparedness under the mantra that if you are ready to survive zombies, you are ready for anything.

"We kind of trick people into coming to our site and then they learn stuff," said Peter Hanson, financial officer for the St. Louis chapter.

"In our literature, we tend to kind of mimic what the Red Cross says, and we have a pretty active forum community and we have much more detailed lists on our website and on our forums," he said.
