I am still trying to get out of debt, and I am doing a pretty good job at it... slowly eating that elephant one bite at a time.

I think I have the job skills and the other stuff down though. I am the only one working in the household right now and it makes things - all things financial - go slower. I was planning on paying off 2 bills in December, ya thats not gonna happen. but hey May will be here soon enough. I whole heartedly agree with having 6 months income in the bank is an absolute necessity.

Getting out of debt and staying out of debt is the best high I have ever experienced.
Now facing some serious medical issues and having a supposedly good health insurance plan, means
that our one year of savings will allow me to partake of the medical care I need to live a longer life and
not be fretting over property and car taxes.
I like knowing that we have stocked up and won't have to be spending money on the essentials.
The shtf for us over the last thirty years of marriage has been job losses, the terminal illness and death of our son, the illness and deaths and funerals of both of our sets of parents and having to retool for employment opportunities.
Knowing how to garden, fish and to make do on beans and rice and eat well and to be truly happy and in in love has been the foundation for us as a family.
Having faith in our creator and God has been a stablizing factor and we rejoice in knowing that we have gone through the hard times, had much joy and laughter and know that come what may, we will be o.k.

I'm sorry for your losses, but this is what being prepared is about. Thank you for posting.

I agree with the first blog about preparing for next Thursday, but I feel the blog about TEOTWAWKI is too filled with selective observation.
The blogger does not address plausible scenarios that can lead to TEOTWAWKI.
The two that immediately come to mind would be a large impact event or Yellowstone Caldera eruption.

I think you missed the point that James G (the blogger) thinks that TEOTWAWKI is a bunch of crap.
Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?

People will believe what they want to believe, and prepping is a deeply personal thing. James_G does not believe that the end of the world will occur, so he doesnt plan for it. He does feel that it is reasonable to have 30 days of food storage and too plan for severe natural disasters. He thinks that you dont need a bug out location or a plan on how to get there. He is probably right.

James_G had a good point, if you are stockpiling beans and bullets while your kids need clothes, you are doing it wrong. You don't put together an INCH bag until you have food at home and a BOB. I personally dont think I will ever use a chest rig in anger. My badass door kicking days are behind me (just ask my wife), but I still have one. It was one of the last things I put together. it's just a basic rig, I have it, and I use it on occasion. My GHB see's far more use now then my rattle ever will. Luckily, like others here, my hobbies overlap with my prepping. This allows me to spend more money then I normally would. I'm sure that most of us are like that, and it's a good thing.

This is Zombie Squad, one of the things that makes us great is that we treat TEOTWAWKI as a huge joke, just like zombies. What we actually do is plan for those smaller events that probably will happen and keep an eye on the huge events that may happen. Sure we all joke about Raiders and Zombies, but in the end we have to survive until the mythical disaster strikes.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.

Oh I got his point, and I can be obtuse from time to time.
But I just get cranky with false logic arguments.
It was still a fun read.
