Ok, I see the big "P" south of wolf mount trail. Guestimating from map, if we are taking zig-zag path -- 4 mileish to primitive campsite? I am bringing my ipod and big container of gatorade for this one....
Like I said I probably won't get there until at least 10:00....anyhow, I will call Glitch tomorrow while traveling if I am running later than that....See you all tomorrow.....

Firsties with the pictures!
Nothing tastes better than fresh filtered Central Texas River Water!

Dubbya cooling off in the river.

Ghostwolf trying his luck fishing.

Great to meet everyone! I learned a few things:
More moleskin is needed in my FAK.
Need to evaluate how much extra/unused stuff I pack.
Lighter desert style boots are needed for summer hiking.
I am significantly out of shape!

Re: Central Texas Mock Bug-out Planning
We survived the Perdenales death march of 2010.

Lessons learned:
Bring more water next time.
Get water filter and uv sterilization pen
Bring mole skin.
Bring some sugar treats, can of soda quick energy pickup
I had a great time. Primitive camping, while fun, does give you a better appreciation for civilization when you come back.
During this campout, everyone was so helpful. So, I thought I should say thanks to each of you.
Thanks to Karnedge for lending me his tent.
Thanks to Jester for selling me your ALICE pack.
Thanks to Glitch for the canteen cup and other helpful items.
Thanks to Dubbya for moleskin
Thanks to Kangamangis for the water
Thanks to Ghostwolf for the site selection and other helpful information.
I had a blast and it was fun meeting Ghostwolf and Kangamangis.
I look forward to next month's camping event.

Re: Central Texas Mock Bug-out Planning
Had a good time. Mainly due to the quality company on the trail. The Central Texas chapter definitely has a good core group going. No whiners in this bunch despite the harsh temps and blisters earned on the hike. I think we all learned something on this trip even though it was just an over night scouting. Thanks for letting me tag along guys. I look forward to the next one.

Since no one has mentioned it. This is officially the longest thread we've ever had. I guess actually having matters of substance to discuss does wonders for the thread page count...gonad-grabbing monkeys excepted.

Re: Central Texas Mock Bug-out Planning
Not only is there monkey AIDS, but also monkey herpes......great!
Q. What is B-Virus?
A. Cercopithecine Herpesvirus-1, also known as B-Virus, is a member of the herpes group of viruses that occurs naturally in Macaque monkeys and possible in other Old World monkeys. Infection with B-Virus produces very mild disease in the monkey. Most have no obvious evidence of infection. Some monkeys may have vesicles (small blisters) which progress to ulcers in the mouth, on the face, lips, or genitals and/or eye. These lesions spontaneously heal after a few days, but the virus resides permanently in the monkey, and may reactivate and cause ulcerative lesions periodically. These relapses are especially likely to occur when the monkey is "stressed" (like cold sores or fever blisters in humans). During these periods, the virus is shed by the monkey to the environment. However, the virus may also be shed by monkeys without visible lesions or symptoms.

A. Transmission to humans occurs by exposure to contaminated monkey saliva, secretions, or tissues. The most likely routes of transmission are bites and scratches or splashes. There has been a report of person to person transmission.

So, excess monkey "familiarity" leads to this:

And so ... justifies our bugout preparations. Thank goodness we will be prepared.
