1994 Buick Park Avenue.

I have a 1984 buick Century. Muffler and power steering don't work, gets about 8 mpg. But, it gets me to my job, which is what really matters!

I had an '84 Buick Somerset with no powersteering or muffler. Must be a Buick Thing...

Did yours start with no power steering? 'Cause mine is supposed to have it and the pump broke.

Not to be a dick, but full blown custom trucks have a hard time on the Rubicon... ya think a $35,000 factory shitbox has a chance? well it does... if it drives AROUND the obstacles.

I'm still waitin to see pics of any modern 'trail rated' jeep over the washboards or steps of the rubicon. But then "trail rated' is a marketing ploy.

As for me... I'll take my 197 chevy pick up.

For now it's 350 cid, 4 barrell rochester, 3sp auto, 2wd. (you can laugh now). I'd explain the upcoming mods, but I fear that it would be over most people's heads.

Although (and I'm not being a cocky shithead) I am going to have the entire repair (what I'm doing now: rear brakes, front brakes, front springs, front shocks, steering, underhood, and sheet metal work) process online... as well as the upcoming (probably late next summer) mod-process when I switch in mp203 trans case, GM14-bolts (though I'd prefer Unimogs), Strange drive shafts and axles, Precision Gear diff gears and as yet undecided lockers, undecided rims n tires and a buttload of other goodies.

One step at a time til the zombies get here... and if it ain't done then; well, I'm gonna 'loot' someone elses.

You see old Land Cruisers converted to rock crawlers all the time in the off road magazines and a lot of people who compete in the Rubicon use them as well.

You see old Land Cruisers converted to rock crawlers all the time in the off road magazines and a lot of people who compete in the Rubicon use them as well.

My buddy runs one when we go wheeling.

I think they are great trucks. But I will always have a soft spot for my one buddy's old Nissan Pathfinder. I really wish he wouldn't have sold it. That thing was a monster on the trails.

My inlaws collect the 78 landcruisers and have about 5 of them, and most are all decked out with different motors, axle swaps, lifts, etc. They would be great paw vehicles, but gas hogs to say the least.

well it has a top speed of about 50 MPH However if you dont mind the fact that the tooling that they are made on may be a bit worn out. Look at the URAL 2wd motorcycles. after ww2 the russans looted the BMW factory and took all the tooling back with em URAL has been making them ever since.

Well since the wife and I are becoming foster parents. I need to swap out my Honda Insight for something with 4 seats so after the first of the year or when the insight sells Im going to get a 1980's deisel mercedies benz and get that puppy runinng on SVO.

I've decided my ideal realistic vehicle would be a 4wd conversion van like a Ford E350 or something similar. The Chevy 1500 Cargo Van comes in AWD. I think that would be the best vehicle for me. Especially if I got the chance to "pimp" out the inside. I'd like to make it like a mini-RV. I'd prefer 4wd but would be happy with Awd. If that Dodge Sprinter came in AWD or 4WD I'd take it. I can't wait to see what the ZS Van is gonna look like. My van would be:

It's all about pooling your resources and having vehicles available for specific purposes. If a team can put together a solid motor pool with maintenance/re-inforcing resources they would be virtually unstoppable.

Once again, organization is the key.

You need brute force: a large truck with a snow plow or the like
You need Artillery: a tank or wagon/truck with armaments and weaponry
You need speed: for city to city/region to region raiding/courier/messaging
you need ultimate mobility: multiple vehicles that can get in and out of the shit with a variety of purpose/resource.

and if the time comes... you need: passenger capacity- the ability to transport large numbers of troops/family/crew/etc.

oh, and lots of motorcycles for obvious reasons.

I think the ultimate goal is to try to control the best resources you can acquire, and exploit them to the fullest.
