Hi guys, another aussie from the ACT here.

I know my posts are low now but I'll be sticking around, a ZS:OZ chapter would be great if we could beat the logistics....If not then just a camping trip or 4WD trek would be great too.

Seems I'm the one Aussie that voted, "Don't Care". Which isn't entirely true, I wish you all the best.

My hesitation is that I've found that single interest internet communities thrive on the internet, because people gather with a single interest.
For example I use and find Linux interesting. Went a Linux User Group meeting, and found other than Linux I had very little in common with the people I met. That made the pizza meal after the meeting, less enjoyable, but the mailing list continued to be a good read.

What I have found useful on a car forum I frequent, is regional sub forums.
That's sort of a compromise, because it becomes more familiar and you can start thread on more regional topics, for example bush fires and how to prepare for them, particularly if followed closely by a zombie infestation.

See dude, I once had the same opinion as you. For me, it was Steampunk, Parkour and Medieval Re-enactment.

But, whereas Linux or Parkour are focused on a single specific interest, ZS seems to be more about promoting preparedness, in general.
Whereas my Parkour group in Melbourne was a loose collective of people with one shared interest, and not much else in common, I find the people I've met in the Forum or IRL have an often similar world-view.
Even if they don't, diversity makes a community.
If everyone here held the same perspective, and had the same opinions, no one would be here. There'd be no point.

And I tried to love Linux, I really did.
Then, I tried to install a new graphics card.

The realationship was short, intense and full of confusion, frustration and anger.
The break up was messy, but I'm with Windows again now.

It might not be perfect, but at least it gives me what I want from a OS.
Low maintainance, minimal upkeep, and an ugly-but-useable front-end.
Like most good relationships, it lets me do what I want, without ever having to worry about, or even consider, it's opsys and internal programming.




...And this is why I am single.
